Distance learning centre of Gauhati University

The course curriculum is very well define and is in accordance of the components provided by the AICTE for technical course in computer application. Examinations are held in a semester wise manner for which we have to appear at the regional centre of the Gauhati University. Practical examinations are also conducted at the regional centre. In a Single year of program 2 semester examinations are held.

Placements opportunities for distance learning students are not much. University organises job fair annually for the students however the placement and packages offered during the fair are not very lucrative. Most of the student rely on their own effort to get good placement. In terms of internship as well the University has nothing much to offer and you have to maintain it on your own.

Since it is a distance learning program the fee is less than the regular program and is feasible for most of the student. Total fee for 3 year program is around Rs 16000. During the time of admission you will be required to submit around Rs 6, 000 including the fee and the other expenses. Apart from that examination fees required to be paid before each semester exam.

The state government of Assam offers scholarship to the students who are meritorious or are from some reserved category like the OBC. Apart from that National scholarship portal is also there which is run by Central Government I myself applied to the scholarship offered by the national scholarship portal and got it sanctioned. education loan can be availed but banks will be reluctant to offer it since it is a distance learning program.

As a distance learning student I don't know much about the extra-curricular activities of the university though the University has clubs but mostly full-time students are seen engaged in them. For distance learning students workshops and events are also organised but very few of them take part in it. in terms of infrastructure I can say that it varies from one Regional centre to another in my regional centre it is good.

I applied to the University by filling the form along with all the documents. After the acceptance of my document and application I was granted the admission in the BCA program. I opted for the museum program because I want to pursue my Masters in the domain of Computer application. Since I was working part-time so I opted for the distance learning BCA program.

The faculty at the regional centre is very good however as a distance learning student I get to interact with the teachers only once or twice during a month. Whatever interaction I had with the faculty from that I can say that they are very cooperative and helpful and they help us to understand things in easy to grasp manner. Most of the faculty members are teaching in the Gauhati University irregular program students.
