This course offers students in-depth knowledge about literature and gives an opportunity to study major literary works. This course develops strong linguistic capabilities of students through practical assignments. A student can also specialise by choosing elective subjects. Apart from English literature, the course also enlightens the students with mass media communication, journalism, philosophy, travel, tourism. This way a student finds great diversity in a single course.

English is the world’s largest spoken language and good command over this language in terms of reading, writing and understanding is a pre-requisite in every job today. A student can be eligible for scholarships based on her merit, social or economic background. There are 4 kinds of scholarships JNB scholarship, Platinum Jubilee scholarship, Special Scholarship, STARS scholarship. This college has committees established like anti-ragging cell, counselling cell, grievance redressal committee, equal opportunity cell and office of disability cell to ensure the mental and physical safety, security and well being of their students.

St. Teresa’s college does have a very homely atmosphere centric hostel facility which is clean, well-maintained. However mine was a distant course so this facility was not of use to me. A student can apply for hostel at the time of aadmission.

The alumnus base too includes some very empowered women who have achieved milestones in their respective career and carved a niche for themselves. Some of them are Ms. Jayshree Mishra who is a worldwide famous novel author, Dr.Nancy James, who became the first woman Vice chancellor of Kerala, Ms. V.Karthika who is a published writer and many more. These women only establish an example and do justice to the wonderful education imparted at this institute.

I wanted to study in English literature to become a writer as I always enjoyed writing blogs and reading magazines, novels. So this distance course in St.Teresa’s college which is accredited with NAAC and affiliated with Mahatma Gandhi university, school of Distance College, seemed appropriate. BA in English language and literature is under Arts department and under communicative English sub department. It’s a 2 year course and the admission process is direct.
