Remarks

The College is one of the most reputed college in the city. The facilities provided by the college were excellent and they always attempted to make student lives easier. But I feel the college should do more to encourage extra curricular activities like panel discussions, debates and intellectual enrichment. Also they should do more to attract major corporates and business houses for better campus recruitment.

Entrance Preview

I scored 66%. I wanted to study Commerce and my college is one of the most reputed especially for Commerce. Moreover the timing of the course was from 6 am to 10 am. So I had the rest of the day free during which I could pursue other interests.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

The entire duration of the course was 3 years. Hence the course curriculum was vast and detailed. The syllabus was structured uniformly to enable us to learn and understand the concepts very well. It went from simple organisation structures to more complicated and detailed aspects both in theory and practical.

Internships Opportunities

We didnt have college internship opportunity during our times. But since we had a lot of free time after college hours it gave us the freedom to pursue courses like the Chattered Accountancy,Cost Accountancy etc. Also many of the students took temporary jobs or internships in various C.A. firms and financial institutions.

Placement Experience

3.5

Many students were absorbed by Chattered Accountancy firms and financial institutions like Banks,Stock brokering houses,Financial Consultancy etc. Companies like ICICI Bank,India Bulls,Religare,HSBC,HDFC Bank and similar others came on campus.

College Events

3

The biggest event the College hosts is the College Fest named 'Umang'. The fest is organised in a very big way. There are various categories of competition like music, singing dance, drama, creative writing, art and many more. All other colleges of Kolkata are invited to participate in the fest. The students participate in the different categories of competition as per their talent and area of interest. Almost all the students of the college are present in the fest to cheer the home teams. Students of the other participating colleges are also invited to join in.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is at par with most of the colleges of similar category. But some may find it a bit on the higher side in comparison to the colleges that are fully Government aided and funded.

Fees and Financial Aid

No the college did not provide any loan facility during our time. Also the fee was not very high. So loans could be avoided.

Campus Life

4

The campus life was vibrant. The canteen was always crowded and noisy. The major interaction between students happened inside the canteen. The number of students in each batch was close to 800. Students comprised of all sections of the society. Male students were more in number than Female students. But that was never a cause of any problem. Students interacted freely and unbiased. As far as economic status is concerned most of the students came from Upper middle class to wealthy families. Also most students came from a business family. Hence the tendency was always to join the family business than to seek jobs outside. The talks were also in sync with their backgrounds. The discussion mostly centered around business and stocks and shares. Politics was discussed in minimal maybe as general discussion about current affairs.

Hostel Facilities

2.5

The college did not provide for hostel facilities. PG accommodation in Kolkata is easy to find and in general the rent is much cheaper that most other cities. The college is quite centrally located so commuting to the college from different parts of the city is easy. PGs provide food too. Hence the basic necessities are taken care off. That simplifies the life of the students a lot. PG rates for students is always discounted and range between Rs 4,000-9,000 depending on the locality size of the accommodation and other added benefits.

Alumni/Alumna

The college Alumni association is not very strong and active. Hence the network of contacting seniors or keeping in touch with the peers is not very successful.

Exam Structure

The exam tension and palpitation was absent for most part of the year.

Faculty

4

The Faculty were excellent. Especially for the main subjects which were also tougher in comparison. Some of them made the course interesting so that the students never lost attention or found the classes to be boring. They were extremely helpful and made us comfortable so that the students could approach them without hesitation.

Placement Experience:

Placements were not there earlier. But our batch was the first one to get placement at St Joseph's College Darjeeling. To be honest It is not a college you should target if you are looking for placement. The companies were too small . The roles are way to entry level . Highest placement was around 40000 per month but it was an inside sales role so many opt out. There is not official data about placement . My plan was to look for off campus jobs.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I choose the course the b.com because I want to become the CA but after completing the graduation my family condition was not very good so I quit my studies and searching for the job. My dream was after B.com then I complete M.com then CA but I couldn't do that. I'm pursuing because I'm interested in understanding how businesses work and want a solid foundation in commerce and finance. It opens up various career paths in accounting, finance, management, and more. Plus, it's a versatile degree that can lead to professional certifications like CA, CS, or MBA.
