Remarks

NRS Medical College is the second oldest medical college in Kolkata, with us being the 144th batch of the college. The rich library, caring guiding teacher, world class infrastructure makes it one of the leading alma mater for producing doctor in the country.

Course Curriculum Overview

5

The course is an extensive one of 4.5 years with total 19 subjects followed by 1 year of compulsory Internship. The exams include 4 Profeesional university exams at the end of each academic session (the second session is of 1.5 years) and total 9 internal assessment exams known as semesters. Each of these exams include theory and practical - viva examinations. The practical exams are energy - draining, which starts early in the morning and sometimes continue till the evening of the day, leaving the examinees drained out.

Placement Experience

5

The course is a profeesional one and at the end the students are provided with a license to practice as a doctor throughout India. The doctor therefore can seat for NEET-PG for post-graduation studies, can opt for housestaffship for maximum upto 2 years or can opt for government or private service as per own choice. The course includes a compulsory Internship of 1 year during which the students receive a stipend of ?30, 000/- per month.

College Events

4

The annual cultural festival - ECSTASY which includes the various cultural, academic and sports events, held in the month of September every year. The Foundation Day of the college along with prize distribution ceremony is held on 1st December every year. The convocation day for the graduates are held in the month of February. Various seminars, workshops, debates and quizzes on different clinical topics are held by various departments throughout the year.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Feasible fees structure with ?4500/- per semester, a total of 40, 500 in 4.5 years. The exam fees for the University exams are separate. The initial registration fees fer the University is ?2000/- and then ?2000/- for every profeesional exam, a total 8000/- in 4.5 years.

Fees and Financial Aid

No scholarship available as per my knowledge. The fees structure is minimal, so no scholarship or loan facilities are available. Any student of BPL or other backwards category can however apply for additional concession to the principal.

Campus Life

4.5

The gender ratio of the college is nearly one, sometimes the no. Of female students being more than the male students in some batches. The hostel has each year a separate floor fest on each floor of the hostel. The students of different religion and socio-economic background study together in proper harmony in the college and even though the political and religious beliefs differ among the students, it never hampers the healthy relation among them.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

The boys' hostel is square shaped with 4 wings, really large with two canteens, 2 bathrooms on each floor of each wing. The rooms are large spacious with adequate lighting and ventilation. Each room accommodates 4 students. The hostel is adequately clean and the food quality in the canteen though not excellent, but okay.

Alumni/Alumna

The seniors of the college are extremely helpful. They guide the juniors with utmost care with their knowledge and really steers the juniors to the right path. The college has an Alumni association which is very active in the development and well-being of the institute. The association organises a re-union every year and ex-students who are spread throughout the world and even in their '80s participate actively to reminisce their college days and catch up with their old pals.

Admission

I appeared for the State Medical Entrance Exam - WBJEE-Medical in 2016( now replaced by the All India Medical Entrance Exam NEET-UG) and secured a rank 290. Yhe admission process was conducted through an online counseling procedure.

Faculty

4

The Faculty of the college are excellent, highly qualified and helpful. Even with the additional job of taking care of the patients in the hospital, they teach us with utmost care. The hands on clinical experience the provide ys forms the basic of the art and skill a doctor invariably should possess.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course is completely based on NMC new guidelines. Along with the theory classes where we know the structure and their working in dissection we actually see them on cadaver . Lectures should be more interesting as it's get boring to literally listen the concepts for first time like a story and at the end we forget everything

Course Curriculum Overview:

Medical field is a really good field in my opinion to serve humankind and learn about science of nature and life!the curriculum is a little overpaced and there are 19 subjects which are taught in a timespan of 4.5 years which is a bit hectic! There are 4 professional exams and 9 semesters which have pretty good difficulty and assess our skills and education. We have regular examinations in around 4-5 months each. Only thing id like to change in the curriculum is better assessment of many topics which are taught pretty well but aren't examined much leading us to waste our time in focussing on them.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Well, mbbs is very hard and long term process. You will be bored in 1st year because you cant get real clinical cases. But in Final year, 3rd Prof Part 2, you will get huge pressure. Because there are total 11 subjects, you should study in final year. It is a great burden for all. I'm not satisfied with Nmc curriculum. They are not thinking about students. They are implement their rules in chilled ac room. But they don't know the real scenarios.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum is quite planned and great and has a lot of advantages in having a clinical and learning diagnostic approach to various diseases. One area where the curriculum can improve is by having more practical classes rather than theoretical classes. The exams are quite difficult but are quite planned to make you understand the clinician and the passing percentage is 50 percent.
