Moderately able, but needs to get lot better in handling students' demands and collectively working with them for a better rate of progress.
Course Curriculum Overview
For the Department of Statistics, it is pretty hectic, overburdening and irrelevant. Under the newly opted Choice Based Credit System(CBCS) format of academical cirriculum, things have turned for the worse. The design of the cirriculum is extremely hectic, burdening and pressurising on both the faculty and the students.
Placement Experience
Very nominal. Most departments donot have a system of corporate placements. Nominally the Department of Statistics, Economics and Mathematics have a ill functioning unit of it.
College Events
None as such except Freshers'. There are a few titbits of cultural events organised on behalf of the student organisations, but they aren't significant as such. There's one Fest per year, under the name of Milieu, but that takes place only when the Student Union is functioning, which hasn't been the case for the past two years.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Pretty feasible. Around 2000 INR per semester. At the beginning of each semester the fees are taken by an online payment portal. At around 1900 INR the semester fees as well as examination fees are covered. It is a government funded institution, hence fees are pretty affordable.
Fees and Financial Aid
I have not opted for a scholarship. However the Jagadish Bose National Science Talent Search scholarship is available in the Bachelor levels.
Campus Life
Campus life is pretty liberal, with active socio-political aspirations, multidimensional activities, with an almost 1:1 gender ratio. There are a number of societies including the Debate Society, the Drama Society, Film Society, Cultural society etcetra that collectively take responsibilities to organise events of their interests.
Hostel Facilities
No. I haven't opted for it but there is availability of accommodation facilities, though conditional. The student must have a domicile of atleast 300 km from the campus to opt for a room in the hostel.
Alumni/Alumna
Very irrelevant and loose. There is a lack of proper alumni network, though there's a hoard of bigshots in the list of alumni.
Admission
An entrance examination is conducted by the West Bengal Joint Entrance board, under the name of PUBDET (for Bachelors) and PUMDET (for masters), subject wise. Eliglibility is decided on the basis of the merit list published according to the result of the exam, alongwith a dynamic cutoff from the class 12 board examinations.
Faculty
Mediocre in most Departments of Sciences. Well learned, but typically inable to teach or communicate with the students. The Arts Faculties have been relatively able to bridge the gap, yet there's a long way to go. There must be considerable changed in the techniques of teaching and the teacher student relationship.
