Remarks

Management has to improve a little bit i suggest. Please dong wait students wait for hours for giving sign and incase of absence arrange a backup person to fulfill the need.

Course Curriculum Overview

2.5

I had chosen mechanical engineering as my major. The course is not at all good for todays technoloy standards. And the professors are worst. Out of 80 lecturers in the mechanical department not even 8 were having the caliber to meet the current world mechanical engineering standards. Research is not part of curriculum at all. Laboratories are filled with old school machines and equipments. Practicals are not conducted properly. This was when i was studying but it might changed now. This course no relation to the job that iam doing currently which is IT and iam not interested in moving out this. I would suggest the college revise the curriculum and focus on reasearch and making students industry ready. Most of batchmates are still jobless. I the curriculum.was somewhat what better they could have atleast some decent job in the field of mechanical engineering.

Placement Experience

2

Placement was worst in our college atleast whem we were in college. Not even 10% got hired. Very few companies came for placements. The following are the ones which visted our company specifically for mechanical engineering department. 1. Quest global 2. Titan Etc. There are 2 or three others which im not able to memorize right now.

College Events

3

We have a big fest called LAVAZA. it is mixed fest with tech, cult Festivals. They are held every year since 2017 i guess. Before that there were no fests. Lavaza has lot of activities and competitions. People from many other college in chennai do partcipate in these.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Since i had a schilarship i wouldnt say its expensive. But the batches which started in years 2016 and so on the fee structure was changed. When i joined the fee for mech engg was around 1.05 lacs but from 2016 it is around 1.5 lac i guess(not sure but there was a huge increment in both tuition and hostel fees.

Fees and Financial Aid

I was awarded a MGNMS scholarship which waives 50% of tuition fee. But you have to maintain you academics in case you fail any subject a semester you will not be eligible for scholarship from the next semester.

Campus Life

3

Gender ratio is guite low in the college. But if we speak of mech depatment its too low. When i was there ourbatch had 360 students out which only 4 were girls. Most of the students are from andhra, followed by north indians from different states, and few keralites and tamilians.most of the people are hindus with little concentration of muslims, christians and very little concentration of sikhs, jains. In terms of sports we have good we have lot of options to choose but mainly cricket, kabaddi, volleyball are played. Campus life is not much appreciable but if you have friends around then yeah you can make some memories for life.

Hostel Facilities

4

Hostel were somewhat better and the food too was little better. Most of the rooms are sharing based but there are single rooms as well which cost a little higher. Facilities are good with good power backup, good water supply, good food daily cleaning of rooms and corridors.

Alumni/Alumna

Recently there was a push by management i guess. There were many alumni gathering held in different cities and countries. It feels good when we meet our fellow college mates as we are busy kn our daily lives and have no time to talk to college mates.

Admission

Vel Tech representatives visited my my college when i was in 12th standard. They had promised a scholarship of 50% waiver on tuition if one has a 12th standard score above 90%. So this strategy theirs kind of attracted me. But because of this i had taken my other entrance exams lightly as i had fixed to join this institution for my BE.

Faculty

2.5

There would be around 75 staff memebers in mechanical engineering department with an average age of 36 i guess. All of them are postgraduates exluding the lab techicians and atleast 50-60% of are phd holders or pursuing phd currently. Few of the lecturers have earlier worked in industries and held certifications.

Specific schedule is not followed in college regarding the academic and co curricular activities. Sudden decisions will be taken by the management which is a bit difficult for the students and faculty too. There were times where faculties are fed up of management rules and decisions.

Placement Experience:

1.) Placement begins from the pre-final year and we are allowed to apply for companies from the final year. 2.) Around 70% of the class gets placed in reputed companies with an average CTC of 4-8 LPA. 3.) Along with core biotech companies, many IT companies are also hiring students at a very decent package. 4.) I plan to pursue a master's after this course.

The students become elgible for placements right from the 5th semester of their course work. The students who have no standing arrears become elgibile in the first place. There are many companies visiting the college where Infosys, Cognizant, Virtusa are the mass recruiters. The are many other companies like TCS, Wipro, Zoho etc. visiting the college placement drive. On overall 90% of students gets placed every year. The highest package of 25lakhs per annum was offered by amazon for 3 students. My plans after getting degree is to get placed in any of the company.
