Remarks
The college provide students the best of its student life. Some points regarding college are 1.position in national rating by MHRD; 10 2.Academic transformation activities involving curriculum, delivery and evaluation were quick and relevant. High level MHRD team has appreciated the efforts. Successful models of flexible approach of VIT, virtual delivery of BITS, latest curriculum of IIT Madras and Faculty Development of NUS have been combined together resulting in the leading position. 3.NIT, Trichy has a lead over some of the old IITs in student placement activities. Training and Placement activities are handled by a large number of students under the guidance of two efficient faculty. 4.Students Council participated effectively in the Institute administration. Still there remains some problems: 1.Temporary faculty would do the teaching and they don't know much. Permanent faculty doesn't put extra effort to learn new subjects and teach. 2.Most questions repeat from previous year question papers. Semester paper of few subjects might be 80% same for some subjects. 3.No branch change. No matter how much you score in your first year. 4.A Girl is expected to be inside the hostel every day sharp after 9:00 PM,but for guys, they are given ultimate freedom to roam out of the hostel 24 *7. 5.The placement representatives are bunch of unmannered and uncultured creatures ever seen on the earth.Placement incharge never takes the complaints seriously 6. The slow and unreliable internet wifi facility inside the hostels.
Course Curriculum Overview
Course curriculum is flexible here. Means the exams and course are decide in decision with the student and faculty approval. The exams are consisting of assignments, mini projects, viva, mid semester exams and semester exams. Course fairly include both lectures as well as lab session. The exam can be said as of Orthodox nature with some exception as well where professor tries to inculcate good amount of research into making the papers. The whole process of course and study drive a sense of knowledge and confidence in student making us a better professional.
Placement Experience
The placement record of the college is quite impressive. The average placement is above 90%. The placement for final year goes on for the whole year and students are get job through pre placement offers. There are almost every big company of the field of engineering, marketing, banking, finance, management comes to college. The average no of company which visit in a year is 150+. 30% of the students also opt for the higher education so college doesn't include them in the placement record.
College Events
There are many events organised in the college. Biggest of which is the "Pragyan" technical fest of nit trichy. Almost 100+ college participate in the fest from all over south India. The cultural fest 'festember' is also considered to be the second biggest cultural fest in South India. There is NITTFEST organised for the college students. It is interdepartmental fest. Almost all the department organise their own technical fest. For sports the sportfeat is also organized which is a 3 day event.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The program of B.tech require almost 1.30 lakh of institute fee every year. However according to govt. rules the fee of Sc/st and economically weaker section having less income get to deposit less amount. The student having less than 5lakh of income pays 2/3 of the total fees and less than 1 lakh pays only Rs 18000/- per year. This makes the fee in the range of affordable. Colleges allows both online and offline mode of payment. There are no extra charges for securing addmission in the course. The college almost make the fee breakdown in very transparent way.
Fees and Financial Aid
Yes the college offer scholarship to the student from its alumni funds and as well as college fund. There are approximately 70-100 people every year getting RECAL scholarship. There are various other scholarship also for the sc/st students and as well as state scholarship. The scholarship which is obtained by me is Samsung star scholarship which is given to the alumni of the Jawahar navodaya vidhyalaya who have secured seat in the iits or nits. The student have to fill the form given and attach all the financial and academic details and after verification the amount of the fee is given by the scholarship.
Campus Life
One can find every necessary thing inside the campus itself so that's a good thing. For boys there are no restrictions? with regards to timing. For girls there is hostel in time that is 9 pm on weekdays and 9:30 pm on weekends. If you are entering even five minutes late your I-card will be taken by the security guard and there will so many formalities which need to be done. We have computer center which is 24x7 but for boys. Because girls cannot go out after 9. We have CCD inside the campus. We have many canteens apart from regular mess in the campus. We even have Sports Complex (consist cricket ground, football ground, hockey ground, badminton court, tennis court, basketball court, volleyball court and for athletics separate ground. And many other grounds near hostels. Training and fitness centre like Gym (girl's gym is also opening now), Library(source of books), Octagon Computer Centre (open for 24 hours with Wi-Fi connectivity with AC) The tech-enthusiast and having the ability to get into any tech club makes student life completely transformed. Students spend huge amount of time with club mates doing tech projects and handling events and workshops. Established clubs are RMI (for robotics), Spider (electronics and coding), Delta(coding), PSI (Car fabrication, BAJA SAE team), DC (designing) etc. Being in a club will shape and make a student lean in terms of time management. Other clubs such as E-cell (entrepreneurship), AIESEC, TEDx NIT Trichy etc are there to improve managerial skills. The girls can be said to have pretty less in numbers as compared to boys. There is a ratio of 10:1 in the campus. The students hails from every region of the country but 50% of the total from tamil nadu(due to state quota).
Alumni/Alumna
The institute has among its alumni, some of the most distinguished names of this country. The institute's graduates have left a blazing trail wherever they went. These are the people who served their alma mater well while they were here and continue to do so to this day. We have a very powerful, vibrant alumni network. They provide crucial support to the institute as it seeks to make a global mark. RECAL is the official alumni group of NIT TRICHY. The name is a throwback to our REC past. Some of the most distinguished alumni are 1.Late Dr. Panyam R. Admission
After 12th I prepared for JEE entrance exam. And by qualifying this exam and after councelling I got in this college. The exam now a days happens in two term jee mains 1&2 in December and April respectively. Best of the two score can be opted and rank list is made. After councelling colleges are allotted. The college was very good in nirf ranking and I wanted to choose civil engineering for higher education.
Faculty
Some of the faculty of the college are very experienced as well as having a strong hold on the knowledge transfer to the students. How ever most of the other faculty might seem good on records as per the research and papers but fails into adding good knowledge of the subjects. The classes in a semester varies from 30-40 per subject. The faculty are mostly phd holders with joining in the college at age of 30-35 years. There are however a good number of industry based lectures and workshops.
