Remarks

All the pros have been described vividly in earlier paragraphs. Keeping them aside, yes, being a bit far away from the state capital, this place at times misses attention compared to other colleges. And the number of beds being much lower compared to the enormously large population it caters, the hospital crumbles while handling the load at times.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

Examinations are held as per the regulations of MCI. Through 4. 5 yrs, one has to clear 9 semesters and 4 major professional/university examinations to become a graduate apart from numerous items, part exams, ward completion exams. The institute is affiliated to WBUHS and therefore, paper and standard of examinations are same and at per with other colleges of West Bengal. Since no tuitions are available here for passing professional exams, students have to prepare everything on their own from standard textbooks and thus, are really hardworking and sound in terms of knowledge and conceptions. Tremendous load of patients gives students ample opportunity to gain in hand experience, and makes them skilled enough as a doctor for lifetime, making them good and technically sound professionals for future. If you wish to learn, this place is a heaven for sure.

Placement Experience

4

Internship is very hectic here, with interns working tirelessly along with PG residents. In the process, they acquire great experience (as mentioned earlier also), which becomes almost more than enough to serve as MBBS doctors, RMOs, GDMOs, Junior residents and other professionals in future, independently and smoothly. And in Post graduation also, those acquired skills and experiences do matter a lot, always giving the candidate an extra edge over others.

College Events

4

Annual fest of college 'Plasma' (the largest and most famous college fest of entire north bengal), ex-students fest and reunion 'Nostalgia', Saraswati puja, Kalipuja, eid ul fetar, Rabindrajayanti, Freshers welcome ceremony, convocation ceremony. all are celebrated with great vigour and enthusiasm, apart from numerous conferences, CMEs and other gatherings and programmes all throughout the year. Also numerous indoor and outdoor games/ sports tournaments are held almost in every season.

Fee Structure And Facilities

It is damn cheap, with 4500 rupees per semester, thus a total of 9000 rupees/yr and 40, 500 for the entire course. Hostel fees is 12/month. Admission fees is 1000 Rupees. Fees are collected by Govt and thus, are absolutely transparent in terms of fee breakdown and collection.

Fees and Financial Aid

It provides scholarship from the Govt of West Bengal only to students coming from economically weaker section, or having a SC, ST or OBC reservation. It used to be around 22, 000 per year earlier (now the figures are not upto my knowledge).

Campus Life

3.5

It has the largest campus in entire West Bengal, with an extremely friendly environment. Guys are unfortunately more in number than girls, the reason being unknown. Seniors are interactive, over helpful. Absolutely no complaint regarding any gender/caste/ racial discrimination, ragging or intolerance for last many years or more than a decade. Peaceful, strictly disciplined, virtually problem free and 'happy' campus, with lots of co-curricular activities, sports tournaments and events being arranged/celebrated all throughout the year apart from studies. Any violation of norms or decorums is met with serious punishment.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

Hostel rooms are adequate in number, but single rooms are available only from final year. Before that, first yr: 4 per room, second to pre final yr: 2 per room. Availing a PG is absolutely not needed otherwise, it only depends upto the candidate's choice, only if he/she can't adjust himself/herself in the hostel. Rentals for PG varies depending upon the room and facilities provided.

Alumni/Alumna

Many brilliant doctors have born here in this mother institute, and have successfully left their mark all over the country and world, examples being endless. We have a large alumni network, who manage to meet every year in a reunion namely 'Nostalgia' centering our college foundation days. Apart from that, seniors, as mentioned earlier are taught to be helpful and over caring towards the juniors from the very beginning, and juniors are trained to be equally obedient and loyal, not forcefully or through ragging but through pure love and by putting up numerous examples before them. Thus the bond which develops here stays for lifetime, making the place 'a home away from home'.

Admission

Through West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination, 2012 (W. B. state medical entrance examination), I got admission into this college. Since my childhood, I had always dreamt of becoming a doctor. I cleared the examination in single attempt along with my +2 board exams. Well, since I was not getting a Govt college in my own city Kolkata, this institute I thought would be the next best choice, considering its proximity to a big city like Siliguri, heavenly scenic beauty of nature, perfect soothing weather conditions all throughout the year, friendly atmosphere and of course, a well established old and well grown institute with lots of patient influx, and therefore, ample scope to learn in clinical practice.

Faculty

3.5

Most of the faculties are caring and dedicated enough in terms of teaching, specially in pre and para clinics. In clinics however, at times our professors get burdened with lot of responsibilities and duties and it's when they can't afford time like other normal days even if they wish to do so. All of them bear a post graduate degree and therefore, their knowledge or clinical accumen goes beyond any question.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course is completely based on NMC new guidelines. Along with the theory classes where we know the structure and their working in dissection we actually see them on cadaver . Lectures should be more interesting as it's get boring to literally listen the concepts for first time like a story and at the end we forget everything

Course Curriculum Overview:

Medical field is a really good field in my opinion to serve humankind and learn about science of nature and life!the curriculum is a little overpaced and there are 19 subjects which are taught in a timespan of 4.5 years which is a bit hectic! There are 4 professional exams and 9 semesters which have pretty good difficulty and assess our skills and education. We have regular examinations in around 4-5 months each. Only thing id like to change in the curriculum is better assessment of many topics which are taught pretty well but aren't examined much leading us to waste our time in focussing on them.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Well, mbbs is very hard and long term process. You will be bored in 1st year because you cant get real clinical cases. But in Final year, 3rd Prof Part 2, you will get huge pressure. Because there are total 11 subjects, you should study in final year. It is a great burden for all. I'm not satisfied with Nmc curriculum. They are not thinking about students. They are implement their rules in chilled ac room. But they don't know the real scenarios.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum is quite planned and great and has a lot of advantages in having a clinical and learning diagnostic approach to various diseases. One area where the curriculum can improve is by having more practical classes rather than theoretical classes. The exams are quite difficult but are quite planned to make you understand the clinician and the passing percentage is 50 percent.
