USTM diary

It is the first State Private University on Science and Technology in entire Northeast India. This University is a project of Education Research & Development Foundation (ERDF), the largest educational network in the North Eastern region of India. I took admission in the year 2017. I preferred to choose the college over others because of the beauty of the campus. The university is surrounded by greenery. It's covered with mountains. Along with regular courses, USTM along provides free coaching to the students for the various competitive exams.

I choose social work so that I can help the weaker sections of our society. I want to get engaged in various welfare activities. Mother Teresa is my inspiration. The faculties of our department have friendly behaviour with the students. Whenever a student tries to give up, the faculties try to motivate the student. They are always available for the students. The faculties are highly qualified, many of the faculties are PhD scholars. The faculties try their best to make the students understand. They use the simplest methods to make the students understand. Three sessional exams are conducted for the student, from there best of two are selected and the marks are added in the internal. And the semester exam is conducted after every six months. The passing mark is 30. If the student studies properly then one can manage to get good marks.

Since I'm a social work student, I have been engaged with many non-profitable organizations as an intern. It's a part of my studies. Every semester I get engage in different NGOs and I work there as an intern. I have worked in Indian Council for Child Welfare, We Are Young Foundation, Assam Centre for Rural Development, Helping Hand Old Age home.

Once the students get into the 5th semester, since then placements start coming. Companies from various fields come for placement. Well, I don't have any idea about the package as per the companies. I haven't applied for any job yet, since I don't have the planning to get engaged in the job after completing my bachelor's degree. I'll be pursuing my masters after getting the degree.

The fees depend upon course one is pursuing. I need to pay 20,000 per semester. The scholarship is provided to the students who score good marks in the exam. Financial assistance is provided to the students who are having financial issues in the family. Once we complete our degree then placements start coming.

The university used to conduct various cultural programs for the students. North East Graduate Congress (NEGC) is a fest conducted every year in the month of February. Students from various college from all over Northeast are invited in this fest. Only undergraduate students can be a part of the program. Various competitions are conducted. Along with the cultural competitions, the competitions which are related to studies are also conducted. It's a golden opportunity for the students to showcase their talent. Various prizes are given to the students who take part in the competition.
