Remarks
SHUATS had been a reputable institute for studies related to Agriculture and allied sciences which was one of the main reasons I chose this Institute. The Institute was one of the first ones in the country to have a dedicated degree course in Agriculture. Moreover the lush green campus and attractive atmosphere in and around the university were also one of the reasons I joined the Institute.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is designed by ICAR and is improved and changed as needed and is always up to date with the recent advancements and need of the agricultural sector. However, I feel the university falls short in many aspects as far as a academics are concerned. Many of the teachers are either unwilling or unable to tackle the entire course curriculum and tend to teach select topics which were few and sometimes even out of syllabus.
Placement Experience
Placement opportunities are low and not at all satisfactory after spending over 4 lacs on the degree. Less than 30% students from our batch got placed. The profiles offered are mainly those of trainees and marketing with average salary of 2-3 lacs with little scope of improvement.
College Events
Campus life is the high point of SHUATS. There are tonnes of cultural fests, activities both at department levels as well as university levels. There are different clubs such as the photography clubs, literary clubs etc which also organize many events throughout the year. The sports week in the month of February is something every SHUATSian waits for eagerly and the interhouse competitions held contribute greatly to this excitement.
Campus Life
The campus is huge with lush greenery and scenic atmosphere with trees surrounding almost every campus building. The research farms are also well kept and provide a good hands on experience for the agriculture students. The campus has wifi facilities, wifi hostels, a large and well resourced central Library, more than 4 canteens and cafe and even an ice cream parlour. Laboratories, especially the ones in the Agriculture dept, are well stocked with equipments and other materials. However, I believe that some of them are too small for the large and ever increasing batch size of almost 200 students.
