My College Review

Panskura Banamali College is a renowned college in the Purba Medinipur District and provides good education through learned faculties and academics. The college has provided me with the successful learnings of Commerce in my graduation program which has helped me. The college campus,activities were simple but memorable and the support of seniors and other students made the college life a smooth sail.

The syllabus was also updated in the same year. But the course not relevant as it did not impart any practical application knowledge to us but only theory was taught which did not suffice. Also there was no Computer related projects or knowledge provided which made it irrelevant and outdated to the industry needs of the time. Though the three years course was imparted to us by learned faculties and also we were visited by Calcutta University faculties but the theory based culture could not build us ready for any placements in the practical world. There were no industry visits provided either. The three years B.Com (Hons) course had Part 1 examination held at the end of Second Year and Part 2 examination held at the end of third year.

When I passed out in the year 2002, the college had No facility or provision for any Campus Placement or any other Placement Assistance. Hence the students including me that time were neither given any placement interview training, career counselling or preparation for future job search.

We had an Annual Sports Event held every year which was organised by the College. There were New Students Welcome programs held by respective departments of Arts,Commerce and Science. Apart from this Yearly Student Election was held for the Student Union leader.(except Commerce department).

The total program fee for three years B.Com (Hons.) Course in Panskura Banamali College for the year 1999-2002 was 6000 /-(Six thousand rupees only). The only mode of payment was by Cash. There were no extra charges for admission. The college provided absolute transparency in the fees breakdown.

Panskura Banamali college did not provide any scholarship facility or opportunities to any of the students.

The campus life was satisfactory with own Sports ground, food stalls for relaxation and recreation. Annual sports day was an awaited event every year as we could meet other department teachers and students of the college. Students individually planned cultural events like rabindra jayanti and bengali new year celebrations. The gender ration was 70:30 Male : Female. Students were mostly from the local villages or towns but since transportation was easily available via trains hence the college attracted students from far areas of Kharagpur,Medinipur,Mecheda,Kolaghat etc. There were no issues regarding tolerance of race,religion or gender as it was peaceful and knowledge oriented college.

Panskura Banamali college did not have any alumini association but as a localite I knew most of the pass outs or seniors which gave me an added advantage.The seniors were supportive and helpful which included the Student Union members as well.

The college had very learned faculties with lot of industrial knowledge and exposure. Faculties mostly travelled from outside and most of them were from Calcutta University. Most of the faculty were between the age of 40-50 years. On a daily basis we were provided with 5 lectures for six days a week. They provided us with enriching theory classes and gave us very well clarity on the subjects.
