Remarks
The college is management is very strict about its rules. There is absolutely no tolerance for misbehaving. There are punishments for little things. I don't know if it's a good thing or bad.
Course Curriculum Overview
Yes, the course is relevant. The studies that we do is research based and we follow the curriculum of St.Xavier's itself as it is autonomous. The curriculum is designed to teach and nourish students not to burden them. The methodology for teaching is based on practicality and with many real examples which I believe would be helpful in campus placements also we all have to undergo a month of internship to complete this course. There are industrial visits planned by societies for first year students.
Placement Experience
I am currently in my second year so I don't have much information about the recruitment process although I know this for sure that all the Top companies of the country come to St.Xavier's for recruitment, this gives the students an advantage over any institution in Kolkata.
College Events
St.Xavier's college holds some of the biggest events in the state. Although the biggest event of the year is Xavotsav. The line for this event is more than several kilometres long. Thousands of counterfeit passes are seized during this event. This just explains the popularity of this event. This does not mean that there aren't other events. There are major events happen almost every month and major celebrities come to our college for such events.
Fee Structure And Facilities
My program fee is around 1 lakh per year for 3 years. I would say that this fee is nominal compared to what the other colleges charge. The mode of payment is online and the college doesn't charge any extra admission fee. No there is no transparency in the fee-breakdown.
Fees and Financial Aid
No, as per my knowledge St.Xavier's doesn't offer any scholarships. Although the become morning course is subsidised at around 20000 per year.
Campus Life
The morning college is just for boys although the evening is coed and hence being in the evening course I believe girls to boys ratio is 3:2. Yes the sports teams at St.Xavier's are excellent. They win most of their matches. St.Xavier's is popular for its debating skills, no other college can compete with the debating teams. The computer facility is very average.
Hostel Facilities
No I haven't. According to my friends hostel facility is very average but compared to what they charge per month it's more than sufficient what they provide. The per month charge is around 6000 for rooms and food included. The hostel facilities are very strict where discipline is concerned.
Alumni/Alumna
I haven't have any interaction with alumini so I can't answer this question but the alumni help in funding the major events hosted by our college.
Admission
St. Xavier's College is the number one college in Kolkata. Being a student of this prestigious institution carries a lot of credibility. Straight when my school was over I had decided that if I'll go to a college in Kolkata it has to be St.Xavier's, it was the only college in Kolkata that I thought that I'll apply for but for the B.Com morning course. After my +2 results I was not sure that I would get into the college as B.com morning was entirely decided upon the +2 marks and my marks would definitely not meet the cut off list. Hence I applied for B.com as well as B.M.S course, a few days later I also applied to Symbiosis Institute of Management, Pune and after an entrance exam and an Interview in Pune I was accepted but I wanted to to join St.Xavier's that I passed upon that opportunity. Fortunately for the B.M.S course there was an entrance test and I appeared for the entrance test and got accepted in the third list for the college. The next day was a basic interview, nothing difficult or stressful, just some basic questions about my life. That's how I got into St.Xavier's College, Kolkata.
Faculty
Most of the lecturers at my college hold a doctorate and some also come from a corporate background which helps them provide us with the practicality of business and management. The best thing at my college that I believe is the hierarchy because the senior posts and junior posts are not just decided by age and experience but also by monitoring the capability of teachers.
