Remarks
I think, Manipal is the best thing that happened to me. This college not only taught me technical skills but helped with life skills too. Administration is quite supportive when it comes to student welfare. Also this is one of those less Colleges which takes students mental health seriously. I met some best people here. I developed some skills, I thought I would never have here. The student culture is the best thing about Manipal.
Course Curriculum Overview
Since I am from Mechanical Engineering, I would talk about this particular course only. The course structure is completely revised every 4 years and minor changes are done every 2 years. Even then, I felt the course to be a bit outdated. But I joined 3 years after major revision happened. Our immediate juniors have a quite different course plan than our batch. But even then, speaking from personal experience, knowing about the outdated things really helps in learning new things. For example- We are taught about working of 2 stroke and 4 stroke engines. Studying about this only helps me understand all other complex types of engines like Wenkl Engine.
Placement Experience
College has a fair placement record. As most companies say- MITians are better Managers rather than Technical Experts. So placements in non-core companies are on a bit higher side. For Mechanical- there are various companies. Core - TATA, Maruti, Mahindra, Bosch, UTC-Aerospace and many more. Non- Core : Amazon, Flipkart, Delloite etc. The starting package for a Mechanical Engineer is quite low all over the country. So in core placements Mechanical has an average package of around 5-6 lakhs. Although, non-core placements provide a pretty higher package. Since most MITians come from business backgrounds, most of them go for start-ups. As our seniors say- "We MITians are not job-seekers. We are job creators". There have been numerous Alumni who have proved this.
Fee Structure And Facilities
It is a bit expensive compared to other Colleges. But I felt it was worth it. Manipal is quite fair when it comes to admissions. It doesnt have "give more money if u have less rank scheme". This is what I like the most about admission process of the college. Though the bad part is, there is no installment schemes. All the fees has to be deposited at once before the year begins.
Fees and Financial Aid
Scholarship is given to merit students while admission (top 1000 ranks and some other criteria too). But one has to maintain a healthy GPA in all sems to get benefitted from this scholarship. Student loans can be availed. All you need to do is go to University Finance Section and ask for 4 years fee receipt. Provide it to the Bank and they give you loan. The loan process just requires the fee receipt. Other things asked by the bank are usually personal information.
Campus Life
I feel the campus life is the best life I ll ever live. Institute has many things which keeps students involved even after classes. Students work till 2am in workshops working in a formula car, a mars rover or making a drone. Similarly, some students work late night in campus practicing dance, drama or singing. Innovation Center is also open during the night where students can work on their projects. Although for all these things, you have to get permission from authorities. They won't allow you to stay out of Hostels if you dont have a genuine project to work on.
Alumni/Alumna
Yes, they are quite helpful. Senior Junior relation is quite good. As in, there is no such difference as senior or junior. They all act like friends. And alumni help if someone calls for help for any placements or any advice.
Admission
I got admission through entrance exam conducted in April 2017 ( I got AIR 2420). I researched about the college and found the student culture quite intriguing. Also about the branch, through networking on web, I contacted a lot of people, and found that Mechanical is the oldest branch here and the best faculty. Also I had a thing for Automotives. I chose Mechanical over Automobile as it gave me some flexibility. Also placements of Mechanical are better than Automotibile, comparatively. The admission process involves councilling, where students are called according to their rank and allotted branch accordingly. There are 5 rounds of counselling, so one can get a chance to move up their preference order if anyone from the higher preferred branch opts out. This happens during Mid-May to Mid-June.
Faculty
I would not be exaggerating if I say Mechanical Branch has the best faculty across all branches. They are quite supportive and help whenever you need any guidance, be it academic or career-related. (Although this is a general feedback. Exceptions are everywhere).
