Review about my college

Vivekananda College is ranked among top colleges of Kolkata. This college is mainly famous for it's Zoology, Botany, Physics and Chemistry department. Being the youngest department Geography is growing day by day. This department will provide you a very modern infrastructure with projectors in class rooms, modern instruments like dumpy, theodolite, prismatic campus, barometer etc.. and a computer lab for Girls. This college give me a lot of scopes.. beside my study there was a lot scope of extra curriculum.. personality development cell, NCC, NSS, mountaineering cell for geography students, rock climbing cell for geography students,, Astronomy club,, very active drama club,, very active debate club (already during my 3 years of college it won state level competition twice), Vivekananda College being a reputed 'A' grade college always prefer to take admission through Merit and marks.. no entrance exam is required here.

Geography was my preferred subject while this college was providing a science degree with good lab infrastructure. There is 4 full time contractual teacher in the department now but there is no CSC required faculty there while student taking capacity per class is 40, so student teacher ration is 1 teacher for 10 student. Teaching Method is not same of every faculty.. there will ba some faculty very descriptive in teaching manner with a detailed explaination while some faculty like to teach in a cool way and within a short time but student will get some problem during practical classes. There was a mid term exam and test before final exam.. but now in semester system only one exam is taken before semester final.. and it is really very tough for those who don't study in detail.. but quite easy for studious students..

3rd year students are eligible for placement. There is a placement cell of College. Though this is a general degree college most of student prefer to study more and go to another prestigious university to pursue their masters, but some department like Journalism, mass communication, electrical, computer science, electronics participate actively every year in placement cell. Sadhana TV, News 18, companies from Behala Industrial Estate, TCS group are those where students are employed directly after college.

For Geography fees is 57000 for 3 years with a fess of 9000 per semester and including some exam fees and other student aid fees it will become 57 K at the end. SCHOLARSHIPS But merit students don't need to worry, who have secured 75% marks at their 12th for them there is Swami Vivekananda Merit Cum Means scholarship and students will get 18000 every year as study assistance, so mostly your fees will be covered. Secondly you have some scopes to work in mini research projects of college due to that work you will get stipend of 1000 per project and a student is allowed to do maximum 3 project. Thirdly there is another scope for geography students to participate nation building competition and by this you will get 5000 at once in your account but any student can apply only once for this.

Annual fest of this college is called PRAYASH is a culturally rich program for all students celebrated in end of summer.. but this is not the only festival celebrated here.. International Mothertoung Day,, Basant Utsav (Holi, a colourful indian festival),, Swaraswati Puja is also celebrated here. There is a huge number of book available in library and so many international journal are available..some departmental library is also there. There is a lots of extra curriculum is there in campus.. annual sports is conducted in December,, during an academic year at least 4 or 5 time debate competition including inter-college and state level is organised,, poster competition,, photography contest,, 3 day long drama competition,, short film making and documentary making competition,, quiz competition as well as NCC and NSS is also their,, Two remote village is adopted by NSS group of this college. students who are interested in social work, generally participate here..
