Remarks
Mainly because of its reputation, I opted for SXC initially. The admission process was pretty thorough, & the volunteers were extremely helpful. The present profs of your dept would verify the marks & all, & welcome you to the dept formally. SXC is basically the best college in Kolkata, period. Especially for graduation in BSc, BA & somewhat B.Com - you can't look away from SXC. Just look at its eminence & record over the years.
Course Curriculum Overview
I always had a thing for Statistics, not just because I love the subject itself, but also due to its ever-rising market demand. The course curriculum is pretty neat, & well organized. It's well-equipped to sharpen the young minds, & mold it into becoming the Great statisticians of the future. Currently, as I write, there are 7 members in our esteemed faculty. All of them are well-known in the field of statistics in India & abroad, & well-versed to guide the students in the right direction. One thing SXC has - that is a lot of exams. Mid-terms, practical tests & end Semesters. It's not easy enough to pass, but you're attentive in attending the classes, & study well, it's a cakewalk.
Placement Experience
The college provides pretty handsome placements post-BSc completion. Students become eligible after the 2nd year of their study. There are lots of high profile companies visiting our campus every year. As I myself didn't attend the placements (as I'm applying for Master's in Statistics), I wouldn't know much. But the college website has it all curated. Most students from our dept go for Masters in some of the reputed units around India & abroad. However, some did appear for Placements, & got placed in certain big shot companies. The average package was around 5 LPA.
Fees and Financial Aid
The course here at SXC is a little costlier than the same in other units & colleges for sure. But I'd say, it's worth it. The facilities & experience that one gets at SXC is worth the money. That said, it's a little above-affordability for most. But then again, there's the INSPIRE scholarship provided by the Central govt after XII, which is more than enough to cover your expenses. The colleges itself doesn't provide any scholarships in Statistics course. About the fee hike policy - expect the fees to increase for the year to year, although it might be little. As of our year, it's 2500 per month, 1500 for each semester, & other yearly fees.
Campus Life
Look up Xavotsav on the web - you'll know what I'm talking about. This is the undisputed winner in the college fest category in East India, if not whole. Apart from that, there are department-specific fests that are held in particular months. For example, statistics dept hosts 'epsilon-delta' in or around March. The central library is of the biggest assets of the college, with well over 5000 books & e-lab. The classrooms are pretty big (mostly), & almost all of them are Smart-classrooms. There are certain societies, cultural or otherwise, that pupils enroll themselves in. They've their own fests & shows.
