Course Curriculum Overview
It is a four year program divided into eight semesters.We are taught about principles of aquaculture, taxonomy of shellfish&fin-fish, inland fisheries, marine biology,navigation&seamanship during our four year course.This program empowers one to be technically qualified fisheries who are proficient enough to oversee,create&conserve the diversified resources of fisheries in the country for food industry. There is also a six months internship which is mandatory.
Placement Experience
I would say that the placements here depend solely on the knowledge of a person.Top jobs positions which were offered last year were Farm manager , Inspector of fisheries , Fisheries development officer , Hatchery manager , Aqua Agriculturist, Marine biologist and many more.The highest package offered was around 11 lpa. The minimum stipend for the internship program was around 8000 per month.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The tuition fees for one year is around 10 L . The total for four years comes down to approx 28.84 L which I consider is a little bit expensive.This charge excludes the hostel&mess charges.You also need to pay registration fees at the time of admission in the college.
Campus Life
The inter college fest and Clinilogic are one of the biggest fest organised in our college every year. Last month Fisheries & Aqua culture conference was held where we were given steps and guidelines to protect our marine diversity.Dog shows are also conducted at the college once in a year.Other fests include National level youth festival , inter-college sports, Kannada month fest , Vet fest Ethnic day etc.
Hostel Facilities
Labs here are of modern infrastructure and well equipped with the technology.We are provided with a well established indoor sports court for extracurricular activities.The hostel rooms are quite spacious and there is a almirah provided to us for keeping our personal belongings.The campus is WiFi enabled.Even a multi gym is provided to all the students of the college. The quality of food in the canteen & mess is pretty good.I would rate them 3.2/5.Both veg and non veg menu is available for the students who are food maniac.Hot water facilities are also provided and cleanliness is a must to care about.
Admission
In order to seek admission in my course you need to clear Common Entrance Test as conducted by KEA. The age limit of the candidate should not exceed beyond 17 years. There is also a 5% relaxation given to SC/ST candidate.Other than that you need to secure 50% marks in PCB in class 12th from a recognized board.English is also a compulsory subject.You can apply online for this course. Luckily my name appeared in the second merit list of the college . Later on I was called for documentation process and granted admission in the college.
Faculty
The teachers are very much accessible to the students.There are 150 teachers and 200 non faculty teaching members in the college provided at the students disposal to clear all their queries related to the subjects.Our teachers also take us to field trips and give us presentations about the relevant topic so that we get in depth knowledge about the subject.The ratio of teacher to student in my batch is 4:60.
