Remarks

TFIR provided me with the best of education and exposure from the finest of doctorate teachers and professionals. I got the certifications and recommendations from my college?s best and finest faculty. The faculty and the education given by them is exceptional. The college is itself very relaxing and gives a stress free environment.

Course Curriculum Overview

TIFR majorly complied with basic research primarily in subjects like Astronomical, Biological, Chemical and Physical Sciences, Mathematics, Theoretical Computer Science and Systems Science (including Communications & Applied Probability) spanning over 12 semesters each having a specialised and a designated grade in each semester. The college also ran a graduate program leading to a Ph.D. in all these areas. We were expected to work on a research project under the supervision of a researcher at TIFR. The selected students were trained to work on a research project with the subject of his/her major under the supervision of a researcher at TIFR. The internship programmes were held at the Mumbai campus.

Placement Experience

3.5

Since TFIR is a research institute, it provides a platform to research and study as the aim of TIFR. However, the teachers and guests guided us and wrote recommendation letters for future placement. It provides various certifications for the same . The TIFR graduates are spread all over the world, due to our faculty.

College Events

5

We celebrate festivals like diwali, saraswati puja, dahi handi, onam, gudi padwa etc. Not that much of a religious college as its main aim is the student?s research. Many cultural events were celebrated there are including the founder's day, different open days, Frontiers of science and other scienctific outreach programs, independence day, republic day etc.

Campus Life

The atmosphere of the university was exciting. It included a lot of gardens and playgrounds. The buildings were designed in an appealing manner with the best infrastructure. We had huge multi purpose and auditorium halls which were spacious and well maintained. The labs and libraries were full of the latest technology and books. Learning was through Ebooks and every student had a personal computer to work on. The music and dance rooms were separately made where we could give time to our hobbies and build talent.

Hostel Facilities

Hostel buildings were nicely constructed with the separated boys and girls hostel. It was guarded by the security guards and under warden surveillance making it a safe and secure place. The mess timings were strict and the food given was tasty and healthy. The gates of the hostel were used to get closed sharp at 10PM to not let students go outside at night. The washrooms and other utilities like room bed, fan, cooler, etc were well designed and cleaned. Overall the environment of the hostel was friendly and polite.

Alumni/Alumna

Scientists are gentle and helpful in nature. At least that is true for the extended TIFR-family. Everyone knows almost all of their immediate seniors, and the seniors are less like local boss and more like brothers/sisters to their juniors. The alumni association network is vast, and very helpful in general. Most of them were already working on some great projects which made us push our limits a little more.

Admission

At TIFR, the courses which were offered were research in physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, computer science and science education. The main campus was located in Mumbai, with many of its centres located at Pune, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. I was pursuing my higher studies in wildlife biology. Typically the Ph.D. program was for five-years, the integrated M.Sc.-Ph.D. programme was for six years and the M.Sc. programme was for two years. Students were admitted to TIFR through a rigorous selection process, which involved a written test, followed by an interview. Selection was strictly by merit.

Faculty

5

Since all of the faculty members were active researchers, they were always a great course instructor and goes without saying a great mentor. That said, TIFR boasts some of the finest professors in the country, whose knowledge, skill, expertise and enthusiasm are about the best India has to offer. Apart from the courses from the stalwarts of the subjects all the courses are delivered with utmost sincerity Emphasis were also given on the enjoyable aspects of the subjects and also to make time for our personal lives as well.

Placement Experience:

During my time the first company that visited our organization was Naukri.com, and feel proud to say that i got placed in the same organization. I am very happy with my placement. But talking about my peers. Number of companies who visited to our institute was compared to low as per our expectations. Majority of the companies who visited the institute were sales based organizations. Very less companies for finance and HR field. This made a difficult call for students.
