best college experience

Best opportunities, best facilities, lot of flexibility but lot of pressure to perform and study hard also. Not so easy to score.

I took GATE in 2013. GATE score was 536. All india rank was close to 950. I had 3 years of work experience. At this GATE score IIT kanpur was the best college to opt for.

It was a two year course. My specialization was manufacturing. We had one year course work and one year for thesis. In course work we had to clear 8 subjects. in the first year 3 were elective and one optional. In 2nd year 1 compulsory (forming) and 3 optional based on the research topic you want to focus on. Overall there was good flexibility for the choice of subjects.

In M tech we dont have internship. At B.Tech level students also get a chance to visit foreign universities with which IIT has the collaboration. Ample of opportunities are available. Stipend is best that is offered.

B.Tech placements are better than Mtech. For M.Tech most of the research based companies offer packages averaging around 9 lac in Mechanical. Companies like GE, Rolls Roys, Tata motors, Eaton. Eaton gave highest package among reserch based comanies of 13L.

College event has huge budget. Tech Mela, Cultural festival - antaragini, inter hostel competitions, etc range throughout the year. International performers, lectures of MIT and other eminent professors, TED talks, etc are part of the festivals.

Fee is feasible. Per semester fee is about 18K. In Metch you get stipend of 12000, in which one can easily pay semester fees and monthly expenses also.

I dont have any particular knowledge about scholarships offered. Many awards are given for the top rankers.

Campus life is one of the best. Each and every facility from sports, recreation, gym, pool, bank, post office, food points, etc are there in campus. One can learn or do anything one wishes. facilities are well maintained with good coaches.

Hostel facilities are good. 24hr power supply. Each hostel has one mess, one canteen, one laundary shop, one daily needs shop and one photocopy shop. Mess food is average. Varies from hostel to hostel.

Many interactive sessions are held with alumni. Talks by alumni regarding career choices are held every year. Dont have much interaction with senior students otherwise.

All subjects have one mid sem of one week, and end sem of generally 2 weeks. It can be hectic also depending on the exam dates if they fall consecutively.

Faculty was excellent. Some professors were really good. Most of the faculty is well qualified. Moreover they are experts in their domain. more focus is on research, hence for doing research work, its a great place to be in india.
