Life in Shillong College

The Shillong College is affiliated to NEHU and accordingly follows the guidelines and syllabus of the university. Compared to other universities the syllabus and the topics to be covered as very less hence we get a scope of detailed study. The whole course curriculum is very lightweight and a chilled one. The exam was conducted in semesters according to the rules of NEHU .

As I am still a current student of this college I don't have a broader idea in this field, but I have heard seniors and alums of our college talking about few companies visiting our campus for recruiting students.

We have a co-curricular academic development committee focusing chiefly on the various co-curricular and cultural events of the college. All the students with various talents and creativity are included in this committee.

The fees of our college is very feasible one keeping in mind the economic status of everyone. Compared to the facilities and the quality of education offered the fees is very likely. The total fees for the three year B.Sc course is Rs.39,750/-

There is no loan facility available yet as the fees is light-weighted, but scholarships offered by the government for the schedule caste, schedule tribe and other backward classes is accepted by the college. The fees paid by the students availing scholarship is duly refunded to them.

The college is well-equipped with gymnasium for the interested students to maintain regular health regime. The gym is allotted with a gym instructor who is professionally trained in the background of physical education. I till date have never missed a gym class and this helps me to enrich my physical as well as mental health. The college also owns a library which was established long ago, to feed up its students with daily updates. The librarian Smt. Betbhalin Lyngdoh helps us a lot to get hold of newly published books.

I have not opted for the hostel but as many of my friends stay there, I have visited it several times and it is very well-furnished and each and every student has the independence to maintain their own privacy.

The process of admission in Shillong college is merit based. Based on the 10+2 result the merit list is prepared. The aggregate obtained should be at the least 50% . I always wanted to pursue Zoology in my higher studies and hence I filled up the application form for Shillong College as it has a good name of rendering great knowledge at a very low expense. The marks mostly concerned were chemistry and biology, although a similar emphasis was given on other subjects. The merit list prepared on the basis of marks was published and accordingly I got admitted to this prestigious institution.

The faculty was a great and always encouraged us to know more and made us well acquainted with the vast expanse of the subject. All the professors are doctorate with a plethora of knowledge and experience. They always guide us through the track and interactive doubt clearing sessions are held for our welfare.
