Life at Shillong College

The contents of the course is distributed fairly in a way that it never burdens us. It is not the same as it is in universities like DU. My course is quite easy to go through with ample information contained. There are internal exams as well as semester exams in the end. The average GPA is calculated on the basis of the performance in these.

There are seldom any placements. They are mainly for students learning business. I haven't yet sat for any placement drive, so I am not sure about it either. We are told to be improving in that area. College doesn't provide any internship opportunities which is the only area I think my college should improve.

The fee structure is feasible. They are fashioned in a way that everyone can afford. Fees are paid every semester. I pay Rs.13,250 every year which I think is reasonable and it varies according to the course you choose.

Extracurricular activities in our college is as important as academics. There are many events organized in order to maintain a quality lifestyle. Discipline is maintained thoroughly in the campus. There is zero tolerance towards any kind of injustice towards students. There are many active cells present to ensure the well-being of the students like Anti- ragging cell, Grievance redressal cell, gendering equality montioring cell to name afew.

I am day scholar. Though there are two blocks of hostel for girls and boys each. They are equipped so as to meet the student's needs. Two students share a room and a common washroom is used. It is close to the college therefore very convenient for the students. Food is provided at the college mess. Hostel fees are separate to tuition fee which would cost about Rs. 5,000. PGs are available if inquired.

Admission process is pretty straightforward. If you had good grades in 12th grade it is easy to get admission in my college. I had pretty decent grades in school which came to my advantage in getting into this college. Although some courses are said to have entrance examinations.

Faculty members in my college are very kind and genial. They provide the support and guidance in every way they can. All the teachers are qualified and teaches us in the best way possible. They always encourage us to move outside the prescribed syllabus to attain extra knowledge.
