If you want to make a career as a researcher in botany, then CIMAP is the place for you. Not only is it the pioneer in this field, it was established for this exclusive purpose. Having done my research from there really helps my credentials wherever I go and I have never known a more dedicated place.
Course Curriculum Overview
There is not exactly a course curriculum for PhD, I did have a few lectures, and attended a lot of seminars and workshops in and outside India. There are many requirements of the course, and it is very hectic. Most of my days were spent either in the lab or in the library.
Placement Experience
The institute does not have a career development cell, and it does not need one. The kind of research and training that you receive here, and the brand name that CIMAP has, means that as soon as you are done with your course, you can apply to any research institute, government agency or corporate, and the job opportunities are immense and easily within reach.
Fee Structure And Facilities
For research, no student pay fees. The institute pays stipend to you for a limited time period (could be three to five years), based on the current policy. The stipend received varies with time and the seniority of the researcher.
Campus Life
The extracurricular activity is fairly limited, and there were so many workshops to attend, and seminars by eminent researchers that we rarely had time. The lab is fully functional and supports the latest research .
Admission
After my post graduation I wanted to go into research in Plant Biotechnology and CIMAP was the obvious choice. I saw an online invitation for applications for PhD and applied. This was followed by an interview, the results of which determine the final application.
Faculty
The best thing about CIMAP has to be its faculty and their dedication to the work they do. I remember the passion of my supervisor, and that inspired me to put in the extra hours and effort. The researchers are very knowledgeable and at the top of their careers.
