My collaboration with Hindustani Vocal Music

The course encouraged the young aspirants to develop musical, artistic and intellectual development. We were taught the principle of Hindustani Vocal Music in which the main focus was on the practical classes. It developed a deeper understanding of musical notation system through standard melodic, harmonic and rhythmic structure. It made us familiar with the genres from different historical periods of India. The final examination comprised of the viva which was taken by the external industry experts and a theoretical exam where the questions were asked from the principal subjects taught to us.

The Placement Cell acted as a medium between industry and students. The students built their own music classes in the corporate world. They run these classes with great determination. They also get placed with the schools and universities working as music teachers and professors. The Cell in collaboration with the department organized regular workshops for the practical learning.

The university organizes Youth Festival every year. It is known as Shakthi Sambhrama. It is a cultural event where artists from different universities compete with each other. It is organized to celebrate the cultural diversity in our country and the happiness and joy it brings.

This being the two semester course, the course fee was very nominal. The whole course was of INR 7,720. This included all the instruments fee, examination fee and miscellaneous fee. The fees was paid once. And I did my payment through net banking.

There was separate department library which has thousands of music on music. There was a separate practice area for the students which was well equipped with all the facilities. The LCD projectors were used sometimes in classroom teaching. The music department has one of the best achievements in the university with the students securing the top ranks in the solo/duet/group music festival held across the country.

After completing my certificate course in music, I decided to pursue diploma course with a specialization in Hindustani Vocal Music. There are very few universities in the country that provide this diploma. So after lot of my research, I decided to pursue the course from Karnataka State women?s university. The university followed a very simple admission criteria by making this course open to all the students and working women who have passed degree from a recognized university. After submitting my online form, I got admission in the course.

The faculty taught us so well. Every student was able to understand the Music subjects properly. They were trained in the Hindustani Vocal Music. They also gave us live performances during our practical classes. They were hard working and worked very hard with the weak students. They also mentored us on the emerging music industry.
