Anonymous's Review On Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University - [SMVDU], Katra

It is the most prestigious university in J&K and is also ranked among top 100 engineering institutions by MHRD, with the rank increasing year by year. The environment is really nice but i must say that the administration really sucks. Apart from that, the people and other facilities are really good but again I repeat "the administration sucks". If you want your college life to be fullied only with books and studies and no fun at all then SMVDU is the right place for you.

I don't know much about the other departments but our Civil Engineering department doesn't even has a department building of it's own (we are the first batch of civil engineering in our University). We have been studying for the past 2 years in the Architecture Department with the promise of our own department, which will be completed when we will pass out from our university. But yes they really provide practical knowledge as well, they teach us all the civil engineering aspects and technicalities by taking us to the site where our department building is being constructed (well. At least that building is useful to us in one way). I really think the only departments that are well settled in terms of labs, equipments and faculty, are CSE, ECE & Mechanical. Presently we have 120 students in our department and all the students are being taught by a group of 4 faculty members, such is the level of their qualification and dedication. Moreover one of them writes "vehicle" as "vehical" and "course" as "coarse" and not to mention that all of our faculty members have a PhD. ?

With due respect I don't know as I am in the first batch of our degree program but I have not set my hope high. I really don't know about the other departments many students seem happy after their placement interviews.

Well. we conduct a technical fest every year,but there nothing is really technical in it. We also have a cultural and sports festival but the VC is likely to cancle those every year because he thinks if we do some extra curricular activities we are prone to some life threatening dijeejiz.

SMVDU's infrastructure is it's best thing. The campus is really clean, filled with nature all around and the quality of hostels is also good. Library, Wi-Fi connectivity and the labs (of some departments) are really up to the mark, we even have an IOT lab.

The hostel that you will be alloted during your first year is not a hostel, it is like a hotel. Can you believe that we had elevators in our hostel? During the first year we get a doublet but the room is very specious so no need to worry and there will be a time when you along with your 6-7 friends will sleep in that same room. If you take admission in SMVDU, opting for hostel is compulsory and the hostel fee is included in the registration fee and other fees that our university charges for unwanted reasons.
