Remarks
I chose to attend this college cause it was in the town. Moreover it held a good reputation in the past, not to mention the foundation stone was laid by the then prime minister Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru himself. I got admitted based on my entrance exam rank and was enrolled into the best course available. The college was, apparently, one of the best government (later changed to autonomous) colleges in MP with an infrastructure that gave it an old but classic look. It the teachers were convincing enough to make in enrol for the same.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose this course as,to be honest, this was the best available if I had to pursue my degree in town. Civil war one of the three core branches that we were told while admission guarantees placement. There were 5 subjects per semester. My class strength was 63. The teachers were 12-15. The teachers were mainly post graduate from reputed institutes not to mention some were the alumni too. The teaching method was not very impressive per se. The teachers were friendly to the students they want to be and barely reflected professionalism. There are incidents when the teachers backed log a student if they felt he wasn’t “polite” enough to them regardless of his academics. In our fifth semester we were introduced to a group of teachers through NPA scheme who were very diligent and caring at the beginning but soon meddled in the college environment. The exams were conducted after every 6 months and no matter how good you are if you’re not their good books, you won’t get good grades.
Placement Experience
It’s hard. Just the opposite of what they promised during admission. There’s an interesting incidents that happened while placement. We were asked to join the campus placement of Prisma Johnson. In their orientation, they told us that they won’t be selecting any girls as they don’t think that girls are competitive enough for this job and for their requirements but they allowed the girls to appear for interview and GD. Me and my friend, cleared the interview and GD but were not allowed to go for the interview round. And to our greatest shock/ surprise the students who could barely spoke in Gd were selected for the interview. We were later told their requirements just need average students. Apart from this in the last 2 months there were special classes to help us with placement rounds. A firm was hired to fetch the companies to place students. After all this hoshposh only 7 students were placed from our branch- 6 boys in Prism Johnson and me in a not so known core company, ADS LABTECH.
Fees and Financial Aid
The tuition fees for our course was 60000 per year along with another 1800 we payed for the exam fees. A considerable amount of fee was hiked during our last semester, the one with the pandemic, where the exam fees rose to 2400 and the semester fees also rose considerably. There are concessions for students from reserved category through government schemes that has nothing to do with the college. Moreover, it gets worse when the college asks reserves categories students to pay the fees that had been delayed to come to their bank accounts. And over it all they are threatened that they won’t be able to give exams if not submitted the fees. To be specific, the teachers refuse to sign the exam form (75% attendance) that we have to submit every semester along with no dues. And sometimes students had to really go through hard time dealing with the financial aid. There are no jobs or stipend in campus as much as I know about.
Campus Life
The life at campus of nice. To be honest, you cannot really expect a good crowd here so it all up to you how you deal with it all. The Techfest Satyarth-I is conducted by mid March and the cultural fest Samrat-Utsav soon after. The library is big enough to lend you all the course related books, but lacks in literature part. It doesn’t even have Shakespeare, let alone others. There is a small sports hall and a gym(for the namesake). The sports hall tho was renovated last year and made pretty playable. There are a no. Of cultural and technical groups and the best way you could be productive here in 4 years. There are drama groups like Aaghaz and udaan, technical group like flux, recreational activities group like FIAT and many more.
Interview Experience
There were no written tests or group discussions for admission. In fact as mentioned earlier the students are admitted based on the rank in IIT JEE ( not to mention the sources) we had to go through basic counselling rounds for the admission nothing much.
