Remarks
I'd never trade the four years I spent there for anything else in my life. Heaven on Earth.
Entrance Preview
JEE - AIR 320. I always wanted Mechanical Engineering. Came to IITM for counselling and fell in love with the place!
Course Curriculum Overview
It was hectic, but we were able to finish in time. I had electives in Short Story classics, Enviromental Engineering, Linear Algebra and Graph Theory. My favorite course was control systems.
Internships Opportunities
I did my internship in FLSmidth. The stipend offered was 8000 p/m. It was a lot of fun an a chilled out internship. Lots of other companies came including Bosch and ITC and Ashok Leyland.
Placement Experience
100% placements. Obviously. McKinsey - 14L, BCG - 14L, GoldMann Sachs - 20L, Schlumberger - 20L, ITC - 12 L, Bosch - 10L. Ashok Leyland - 8L.
College Events
Annual Cultural Festival - Saarang Total Footfall of 50000 over five days. Annual Budget 50L Annual Technical Festival - Shaashtra Total Footfall 20000 over four days. Annual Budget 20L.
Fee Structure And Facilities
It was very feasible in my year 25000 per Annum for the Tuition. 26000 per Annum for the Mess. I don't think there were any other hidden charges. You were able to get loans for SBI to pay the same.
Fees and Financial Aid
SC/ST Students also had a similar one and there was a Merit cum Means scholarship for poor students. Loans were offered to everyone by SBI.
Campus Life
Gender Ratio - 1 Female:10 Males Hostel Parties - One at the end of the year called hostel nights.Lots of cultural societies for anyone to join. I'd say there was a high tolerance among students, but there were isolated cases of intolerance. We used to have regular debates on these issues but there was never bad blood, at least in my case.
Hostel Facilities
Hostels were awesome. First years had sharing and later years would have single rooms. Hostel fees including mess was 26 K per annum. Mess food was pretty good and we had regular checkups. But eventually it god boring and we ate out mostly in the final ye
Alumni/Alumna
Had a great interaction with seniors as we had a culture wherein the seniors would guide us through the various aspects of institute life Alumni network is super strong and very active as well.
Exam Structure
Exam Structure -Monthly exams on each subject called quizzes.(Alternatively some subjects had a Midterm)There was a single exam at the end called End Semester Exams Final grades were calculated based on all the exams.
Faculty
They were all very qualified. But most of them didn't know how to teach a subject. Some of the most memorable Faculty were Dr. Sudhir Chella Rajan (HS), and Dr. Kamakoti (CS), Dr Krishna Kannan (Materials).
