The college is well managed and the infrastructure is excellent. The institute caters the needs of all the students.
Entrance Preview
I appeared for the IIT JEE exam in 2012. I performed decently and scored 238 marks out of 408. I got an AIR of 1980. I opted for IIT Madras because the culture and food is a bit similar to my native place (Vishakapatnam).
Course Curriculum Overview
I personally didn't like the curriculum that much. We don't get to choose our course until 5th semester. Luckily it was changed now. Now they reduced the number of compulsory courses and increased the electives. As far as labs are considered the labs are of top quality and are well equipped.
Internships Opportunities
There is something called MCM Merit cum Means. Students under this scholarship receive Rs 1000 per month.
Placement Experience
Since IIT has a brand value the placements are very good. Almost every student gets placed in some company or the other. The average package vary with departments. Computer Science and Electrical departments generally have the highest average package. For other departments it will be around 8 lpa.
College Events
All the departments in our campus have a Department Fest. The generally occur in the even semester i.e. Jan-May. Apart from these there are two main Fests of our campus. Saarang and Shaastra. Saarang is the cuktural festival and Shaastra is the Technical Festival. These are very popular fests and generally are rated in the top 10 fests in the country. Each fest gets a total foot fall of over 50,000. Both the fests occur in the early January of each year. Each fest occurs over 5 days.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fees at IITM is one of the least among all IITs. For each semester the fees we pay is Academic fee 32k,Hostel fee - 18k and every year 25% of the students get a fee waiver of 25k on the academic fee. Apart from these students are eligible to get bank loans. The fee structure is highly feasible.

Campus Life
You name any social,cultural or technical event and itis there in the institute. We even have a special lingo called the Insti Lingo. Once you enter the campus you will get transformed into a different place altogether. I don't know how heaven looks like but i can't imagine a place better than our college.
Hostel Facilities
In the first year we have to share rooms and from second year onward we get single rooms. The rooms are decent and the space is sufficient. The rooms are well equipped and ventilated. The hostels are surrounded by lots of trees. The hostels have many social events and there will be a great bonding between the hostel students. The food in the mess is not that great.
Alumni/Alumna
There is well organized department called International and Alumni Relations which takes care of the Alumni network. Coming to seniors i prefer calling them friends. You can always find a senior who had already done the thing which you want to do now. They are very helpful and makes our lives peaceful.
Exam Structure
Most common pattern Quiz I - 20 Marks,Quiz II 20 Marks end Semester Exam 60 Marks however the pattern varies and depends on the professors taking the courses. For few courses there will be a Mid Semester instead of the Quizzes. Few courses have assignments or projects that contain weight.
Faculty
For students interested in research the professors have wide range of projects to work on. The faculty are highly qualified and are very good for research activities. But not everyone of them are good professors. So often the students choose their electives based on the professor taking that course rather than the course contents.
