Naheed's Review On Jamia Millia Islamia University-[JMI], New Delhi

The good thing about Jamia is that it's Central University and the World-class sports complex. You can spend your leisure time in the lawns there are many or if you feel like studying there are two big Reading halls for it you can sit there till 9pm. JMI has a massive Central Library really big with new books,Journals,Catalogs,e-journals,magazines. Another great thing is the Metro Connectivity which will be starting December 2016. Currently Govindpuri and Kalkaji are nearest 2km to JMI.

To get admission into MCA, you need to clear MCA entrance paper which various universities offer some renowned being DU, NITs, JMI, IPU. I got 380 in NIT I got NITKKR in first allotment and got selected for Jamia Millia Islamia as well as IPU. However I chose JMI because it's in Capital city economical and got standards. The JMI MCA entrance is 105 minutes offline MCQ paper of 100 marks. The syllabus being Maths up to 12th,English and Logical Reasoning.

The Department will guide and make you aware about the on going internships and trainings which you may join with a non-stipend or stipend 5k-20k depending on the offering company and your calibre.

If you are an ambitious student placements will never be any issue. In MCA more than 90% students gets placed every year with an average package of Rs3.5 lac annum and the highest package being Rs 8 lac annum. The Companies visiting the Campus are TCS,PayUmoney,Infogain,Opera,Mahindra,Snapdeal,JK Technosoft,Naggaro and many many more.

The college hosts its 3 day annual cultural fest "MIRAAS" with many intra inter events and competitions taking place like Solo,Group Dance,Singing,Battle of Bands,60 Seconds to Fame,Sports competitions Football, Cricket, Basketball and many more. Apart from this Foundation Day comprises of many such events with Mushaira etc. The Departments have their fests too apart from the University fest. Our Department's fest "Teknothon" boasts lots of technical and non-technical events like CodeJam,IT Quiz,jAM etc.

One of attractive features of the JMI-MCA is it's easy on money it's economical. The total annual fees for the MCA course is Rs 8,400 only.

The Campus life is cool. The University has various societies like Drama society,music society,dance society,Debating etc. So apart from studies you can be involved in extra-curricular activities. Now coming to the Labs,classrooms,the Labs are well equipped with updated systems,projectors no issues. No racism,discrimination or any community centred privileges,favours,hatred or any such things exists at all. It's fair and just for all. Talking about the sports,Jamia has one of the finest Sports complex. The Sports complex has a huge Cricket ground,Football ground,Basketball court,Tennis court,Gym,Badminton & Squash ground. Virender Sehwag is an alumni of JMI. I have been to many departments and most of them were equipped with every facilities that the course department needs. However there is no Student Union as of now.

The hostel is equipped with Wi-Fi facility and good mess though I'm not an hotelier but I have heard well from my friends about the hostel. I have been to the hostel rooms personally rooms are neat and spacious for 2 students. The washroom and toilets are well maintained and clean. Though the non-hoteliers aren't allowed to eat in Mess food, the hoteliers have always praised about the food as really yum and nice. Also the hostel is pretty much near to the campus barely 0.5km. To get into the hostel you need to be an outsider not residing in Delhi and you need to pass some Criteria wrt to marks in X,XII and graduation,Distance from University and if you fulfil all criteria you will appear for interview. The Rental is 2000 annum for hostel 400 annum for mess.

The senior students are very friendly cooperative and helpful, they will help you out in your problems. Coming on to the Alumni they are well placed and some of them are settled outside India and in good position and in big companies.

The Exam Structure is 2 semesters in a year. Here a difference that you will notice is that the Duration of exam is 2 hours for 75 marks. So you need to write at a fast pace from the very beginning. The labs sessions are fine you get ample time to finish your programs and VIVA.

Talking about the faculty they are supportive and will guide you with any problems you might face. If you are an ambitious student you may ask them for some projects to work upon they will guide you.
