Shreya Singh's Review On Indian Institute Of Science Education And Research - [IISER], Mohali

I liked the way our college provides exposure to a diverse subjects making us equipped with a variety of qualities. The factor which drove me to this college is it's reputation in basic sciences colleges. Our colleges gives us an edge over other basic sciences courses as we are taught all of the science subjects- Physics, Chemistry, Math and Biology for two years. I was a biology student in class 11th and 12th, and the first thing I got to learn here was that a researcher must have a broad approach towards learning, leaving no subject behind considering it as irrelevant or unimportant in context of the subject we want to pursue research in.

We are provided hands on experience of lab work in various subjects along with summer internship opportunities to bridge the gap between rote learning and real world problems and researches going on in various fields.

I have heard about glorious alumni of our college but there is nothing like campus placements here, all the students achieve further in their lives is on the basis of their knowledge which they have garnered over the years.

Our college has many societies and clubs which organise many competetions. One of my favourite was treasure hunt, which is organised on a regular basis by various clubs, where we roam about our college all night searching for clues and solving puzzles which is nothing less than that in a Karan Johar movie. Apart from that a compulsory sports module was introduced for 2019 students. Moreover there are Inter IISER Sports and Cultural Meet in December and Intra IISER sports tournaments in February to encourage extra curricular activities even more.

The hostels have really nice facilities as all of these are newly built. All hostels are equipped with 4 lifts. We have gymnasium here. We even have 2 canteens in Hostel-7 and Hostel-5 apart from 4 mess areas, one in each hostel. We are given a room with a partner for the first two years and the other 3 years we have a personal room, which is pretty great considering the dorm systems and shared hostel rooms to which the students are accustomed even in reputed colleges.
