Santanu Karmakar's Review On KG Engineering Institute, Bankura

As it is a Government college so there is no matter of Management which is rather more effective in Private colleges. This college is under Govt of West Bengal. The faculties workshop instructors of the college are just awesome. They are very helpful and friendly. The environment of the college is also very good. Only bad thing is lack of lab technicians are present there. So that we felt very helpless during our laboratory experiments. Infrastructure should be developed to maintain the modernisation of the students with the present world. Overall it is good as a diploma engineering college.

I took JEXPO exam as the entrance exam of this course. My rank was 1160 in the merit rank published by WBSCTE. I choose Dilpoma in Mechanical Engineering over other course because there is a lot of job opportunities for the diploma holders in mechanical now a days. As KG Engineering Institute is a old and reknown Institute of West Bengal and near my residance I choose this Institute over others.

So can you imagine their standards how they are. We had to give exam of total marks of 5600 in 3 years. In 3rd year we had optional electives. We were given Automobile Engineering over refrigeration,non conventional energt because of infrastructure.

There was no such internship offered to our passed out batch.

Every year students union organised different cultural programmes like Freshers Welcome ceremony,Farewell ceremony and Grand ceremony. There was no particular name of these ceremony. The main cultural function is named REUNION is hdld every 2 years later. This is the most awaited moments for all the students. The programme longs two days amd two nights. Reknown bands and artists came in this programme and make it a grnd success. Most of the students participated in college programmes. They took part in singing songs,cultural and regional dance,drama,quiz,recitation etc. They are also inagurated in performing well in sports also.

Fee for all government colleges are very low as compared to private. Our tution fee per year was at the rate of Rs 50 per month and admission and other fee were also quite low. We had to pay a total of approx 1200 per year. But for the same course a private or self financed institute student has to pay 40000 per annum.

Many goods scholarships were available for this course. I availed KC Mahindra scholarship. They financed me by giving rupees 10000 per year. Another good scholarships are Merit cum Means,Lic golden jubilee scholarship etc. No specified stipends was also given like M.tech and Ph.D. But as this is a diploma engineering college stipends and scholarship from Govt and public sources were available like MERIT CUM MEANS SCHOLARSHIP,KC MAHINDRA,LIC GOLDEN JUBILEE and post metric scholarship for sc,st and obc.

Campus life in the college is full of colourful moments. Annual Sports Meet held every 2 year later in which present teachers,alumnies and students take part. Events like Cricket,Badminton,Track and Field,Chess,Carrom and many others organised as a part of the Sports meet. A huge amount i.e 4-5 lakhs is budgeted as expenses of the sports meet. The total intake of all 5 departments are 270. Each department has 60 nos of students excluding CST Dept. Its intake is 30. A ratio of 1:5 between boys and girls there. There is students union which includes studenta from either hostel or non hostel. An election is happened every year where there is no political party but there is two opponents ie Hostel and Non-hostel. Students from different religions mainly Hindu and Muslim come here to study. There is a fund of studenta union which maintains the cultural and oraganisational development of the college. Rest of these Govt is responsible for the infrastructural developement of the college. A lot of laboratories and workshops are presents here for different deparments. For Mechanical department there are 4 workshops named Machine Workshop,Fitting shop,Forging & Foundry shop and Pattern & carpentry shop. Laboratories like Aplplied Mechanics lab,Fluid mechanics lab,Automobile lab etc present here. Every department has also a strong infrastructure like mechanical department.

There was accomodation for 40% students of total intake. There was total of 4 hostels. 3 for men and 1 for women. Food supllied by the hostel mess was average quality as they took only 1200 month as mess charge.

The one of best thing I have had in my college was Senior Junior relationship. The relationship was mind blowing. I think our seniors were the best. They helped and guided us in all the ways for becoming an engineer. There is a alumni association of the ex students of the institute. A Reunion is held every 2 years later for a better bonding between the present students and the alumnies.

The course consist of 3 years and 6 semesters. All semester exams held after 6 months of the starting of the year. Some of the teachers who invigilated in exam rooms were very rude and cruel , and for some its just chill. He will only come , will not do anything which will hamper your good or bad tries.

All the faculties of all dept were just awesome. We had 5 full time lecturers and 2 part time lecturer in our department. They are all master in their respective field. All they have at least a M.Tech degree. Some of they already completed Ph.D also.
