Suresh Parekh's Review On St Xavier's College, Ahmedabad

St. Xavier's College, Ahmedabad ranks No.:1 in Gujarat and 59th in NIRF rankings. This college is the best for pursuing B.Sc. as it has well qualified and highly teachers. Also, we are provided undergraduate research project in collaboration with many National Institutes like Institute of Plasma Research (IPR), Physics Research Laboratory (PRL). Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), and also by the college professors too. They provide us with the platform to do whatever we love to by providing us with the platform and resources. For Example; I love Astronomy and want to pursue the same as my carer, so when I discussed it with one of my professor, he guided me, he informed me about an astronomy club of our department, in which we carried out many activities and currently I am the student coordinator of that Club. They also keep you updated about many state level as well as national level competitions in which you can participate. In Xavier's, only studying is not important, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities play an equally important role.

As St. Xavier's College, Ahmedabad is an Autonomous institute, they have their own syllabus structure. If I compare it with Gujarat University to which it is affiliated, the course seems to be much advanced and of higher level. But overall, the syllabus needs to be updated as there are many concepts which are outdated in today's world and is used nowhere.

Mostly students are recruited by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) at their different branches. Many students opt for the Master's Degree or for some management courses and then get placement in some school, college, industries or well-known research Institutes.

We get to visit many National Institutes like IPR, PRL, ISRO, not only visit, but also an opportunity to pursue research at this well known institutes. Many educational trips are planned to different observatories, labs etc. for understanding the practical importance of what all we study. Every year college organizes Culfest at the campus for promoting the hidden talents of the students and it s the thing for which each and every Xavierite waits for the whole year.

There is no personal Scholarship/loan facility from the college. Rather if you want, you can opt for the INSPIRE Scholarship offered by the Government to the Science Students in which you receive a fair amount of Scholarship money every year and it can also increase if you get indulged in a research project. Being an INSPIRE fellow, one can easily apply for an internship or any research project in a well-known research institutes too on their own.

It is more like a vintage building having retro touch like long benches, old-style infrastructure but it is technologically sound. We have a proper LAN and WLAN internet connection available. There is also a Supercomputer Lab available for carrying out complex calculations. It has a proper football ground, cricket ground, hockey ground, Basketball court, tennis court and two big gardens equipped with benches for chilling.

The hostel infrastructure is not so good. I advise for getting yourself a PG in nearby areas. The bedding is not so comfortable, food is not of good quality and unhealthy and unhygienic also. The hostel campus contains a lot of mosquitoes due to which there is a huge spread of malaria disease in the hostel campus.
