BHU, Masters in Arts

Remarks

BHU should get more diversity of students. The campus is really beautiful. The students, specially from Arts and Science stream are casteist.

Course Curriculum Overview

The course Curriculum is quite nice. Last semester, we studied authors like Satyajit Ray. The course structure is easy and compact. The course curriculum is relevant, but less research-driven. It has helped me in being a better professional. One thing I've learnt is that we should never discriminate.

Placement Experience

3

The placement of BHU is not that good when it comes to Humanities. I've not faced placement yet because I'm a previous year student. The placement cell contacts several organisations, companies, NGOs for the placements. I did an internship in Varanasi with NGOs named Renew Ocean, Sajha Sanskriti Manch and Joint Action Committee.

College Events

4

Before the Annual Fest of BHU "Sapandan", the faculties organise their fest and events. The name of my faculty's(Social Science) annual fest is Sanskriti. The top two qualifies from each faculty gets to perform in the annual fest. The annual fest engages around 10k people in the university.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The program fee is around ?5000 per semester. They prefer all mode of payments- Cash, challan, Online. They don't accept payments through G-Pay, Phone-Pe. There are no additional charges taken by the University. Yes, they provide transparency in the fee-breakdown.

Fees and Financial Aid

Since BHU is a government organization, err a central university, it charges less fee. There is no availability of scholarship from the institution's side.

Campus Life

BHU campus is really beautiful. It has a lot of greenery. The female-male ratio is 8:10. Over 30k people reside inside BHU. They have got playing grounds for almost every faculty/hostel. Most of the people in BHU belong either to UP or Bihar. They are very intolerant when it comes to gender. BHU is less progressive than any other central University in India. As far as religion is concerned, most of them are Hindu. Most of them belong to lower and middle class. Politically, most of them belong to right wing.

Hostel Facilities

Yes, I've opted for hostel. Hostel room is average-sized. One room is allotted to two people for a year. Hostel facility is cheap. We have a mess in every hostel. The food is good and cheap too. The hostel charge for a semester ranges up to 5000.

Alumni/Alumna

The best thing about BHU is the relation between juniors and seniors. They have always been helpful. They not only help with academics, but also guide us. They tell us how it is going to be when we go for placements and job.

Admission

BHU is one of the most reputed and oldest universities of India. Founded by Mahamana Madan Mohana Malviya, it is the centre for All sorts of courses. I opted for this course (Masters in Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy) because I wanted to study the diversity of India and the suppression of the lower castes/tribes/minorities.

Faculty

3.5

There are four lecturers in my course. Their average age must be around 50. All of them have completed their Ph.D either from BHU or Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth, Varanasi. My course is an extension or a part of Sociology. They are highly qualified professors.

Placement Experience:

The placement here at Sharda was too good. Students start attending the Placement interviews and calls from the last semester. I was personally made into 4 companies and 4 offer letters were offered to me. The average package is 3.8 lakhs per annum and highest was about 11 lakhs. There is 100% placement in every dept. but it depends on students if they want to attend or not. After getting the degree i studied for my PhD entrace and now i am working.

In my college the teaching methods is quie good for me and in my perspective the frequency and difficulty levels of exam is not excessive.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Since I wanted to become an English Professor, the course really helped me a lot in getting an insight into English Literature. The professors are very encouraging. The curriculum not only relies on the traditional method of teaching but also various co curricular activities are conducted to prepare the students for the real world. Each student is given an opportunity to prove herself. As the exams are conducted annually we get a lot of time to prepare accordingly.

Remarks:

Overall, I can say that my experience of the college for postgraduate degree is good as of now. Although the course is good, but, I would want more focus to be put on practical learning because after all, it is a practical subject. Other than that, I am content with the facilities provided by the college. I was very interested in the subject and love it personally, so it is a great experience for me.
