Remarks
Student intake must be reduced, it is a serious problem, especially during placements, as competition is tough, also the teacher to student ratio is also very high due to high student intake, mess food can be improved except for these VIT is a great college in terms of education and placements, the college environment is friendly and peaceful.
Entrance Preview
VITEEE exam, AIR-752 rank, Being one of the best private colleges and having the choice of opting for any good branch while receiving scholarship every year I made VIT my choice of education.
Course Curriculum Overview
VIT follows the FFCS system which is a fully flexible credit system where students can opt for courses and faculty of their liking including the chance to select class timings. Courses and upgrades each year depending upon the need, frequent quality check meetings take place between the head of the department and a body of students to discuss necessary upgrades, problems faced by the students, and measures are taken to not repeat any mistakes for the next batch of students, hence curriculum is up to date and sufficient.
Internships Opportunities
Companies which come to college offer internship but not the college itself provides internship, the college offers letters of introduction to working in any company for an internship, companies like Microsoft, Cisco, Qualcomm, nutanix, arista, etc offered the internship of 6 months with stipends varying from 20k to 30k.
Placement Experience
Many companies visit VIT, placement companies are categorized into 3 types, 1.IT (mass) - TCS, CTS, Infosys, Wipro, Capgemini, Tech Mahindra, HP 2.Dream (Package > 4 lakhs) - Tata communication, Wellsfargo, Alstom, Bosch, Eaton, Temenos, Wipro digital, experts, mobicip, Delloite, fidelity, Eaton, Royal Bank of Scotland, Musigma, Standard chartered bank and many more (more than 50+). 3.Super Dream (package > 9 Lakhs)- Texas Instruments, Qualcomm, Mediatech, Cisco, Amazon, Microsoft, Nutanix, Google, Oracle, etc.
College Events
GraVITas and Rivera are two major fests celebrated in VIT, GraVITas is celebrated during the month of September each year, it is a technical fest, so students from various colleges including IITs visit VIT to participate in various workshops and competitions, Rivera is a cultural fest where each night (4 days in total) different famous singers, actors, etc come to VIT to perform or sing, during the day students set various interesting stalls which include from food items to games and clothes.
Fee Structure And Facilities
It is a bit expensive, but compared to other private colleges VIT is far better, for my time the tuition fee is Rs.1,22,800 per annum, hostel fee varies based on room opted, for A.C 4-bed room fee is Rs 35,000 per annum and Special mess is Rs.52,000 per annum, hence the total sums to around 2 lakh per annum, I receive a scholarship of Rs 22,800 each year for getting below 1000 rank in VITEEE exam.
Fees and Financial Aid
For below 1000 rank students, a scholarship of Rs 22,800 is offered every year provided c.g.p.a is above 8. now the scholarship structure has changed including fee structure for my juniors.
Campus Life
The gender ratio is fine, there seem to be many female students, campus life is great especially for students living in A.C rooms, mess food isn't that good also wifi is limited to 10 g.b per month, the wifi disconnects many times causing problems, there are several clubs, chapters, groups, etc in VIT, VIT encourages the active participation of students in club activities every day something or the other event takes place by some club, many seminars and guest lectures also take place atleast once every week, Most of the workshop are free and pretty helpful , we have many galleries to accomodate lot of students at once, there isn't any gender discrimination, hostel in-time for girls is 1 hour less which maybe the only case, students from every part of India live together in VIT , chinese and african students also live in hostels and study in VIT, there are no cases of ragging or quarrels, VIT has a peaceful environment.
Hostel Facilities
Most of the hostels are good, some are bad which are old hostels built long ago, but VIT is re-modeling old hostels like the present hostel where I live A-Block looks great after getting cleaned and painted, Mess food varies from block to block, some mess offer good food interms of taste but some don't taste good due to lack of spices in food items, quantity is sufficient enough, we get non-veg 4 times a week in a special mess and 3 times a week in South/North non-veg mess there are various hostel types: single bed (62,000 per annum for A.C, 50,000 per annum for non-A.C) , double bed (51,000 per annum A.C, 30,000 per annum non-A.C), 4-bed ( 35,000 per annum for A.C, 25,000 for non A.C), 6-bed ( 24,000 per annum for A.C, 19,000 per annum for non-A.C) number of student intake is pretty high due to which some hostel rooms such as 2-bed rooms were made to 3-bed rooms and 4-bed rooms to 6-bed rooms, which in some blocks feels congested due to smaller rooms.
Alumni/Alumna
My college seniors have been pretty helpful to me, they advised me about how to prepare for placements, the companies coming to VIT and what they want from students, etc, many students go for higher studies too, so they help out juniors who try to get a seat in popular colleges and tips for good resume and recommendations.
Exam Structure
There are 3 quizzes each of 5 marks, 1 assignment, two CAT ( continuous assessment tests) one CAT, basically, CAT- II is an open book system, where students are allowed to take any number of print, text, and notebooks, the open book exam is pretty tough, the lab has two exams, one mid-term and term end exam, the amount of free time available even after all classes is pretty decent, at least compared to other colleges, but it all depends on a number of subjects/ credits registered by the student.
Admission
My college where I previously studied 12th (Sri Chaitanya Junior college Vijayawada) provided me with VIT application form, through college I applied for VITEEE exam, I filled details of my application form and gave it to the college which further send application forms to VIT. After writing VITEEE online exam and securing 752 AIR rank I went to counselling in VIT Vellore, on the same day I opted for ECE branch, paid counselling fee and later paid the full fee through D.D to confirm the seat within the same month of counselling.
Faculty
Most of the faculty being Ph.D. and masters qualification, quality of faculty is good enough, the faculty to student ratio is very high due to high intake of students every year, which sometimes creates problems to students who want to opt for a certain faculty as there is a limited number of students, but faculty has good knowledge about the subject and conduct quizzes and exams in their own way.
