Remarks

The college management at our time wasn't as good and efficient as now. The Director, Dr. Gopalakrishna Prabhu, is a gem of a person. He has now finally taken to social media and reaching out to him is really simple finally. He's one of the finest Director Manipal has ever seen. Wish he was there at our time. As far as the management is concerned, problems are always there. But, Dr. Prabhu is the best mediator, Manipal could ever have.

Entrance Preview

MU-OET or the Manipal University Online Entrance Test was the base criteria for the admission in Manipal Institute of Technology. I opted for Manipal for I found it good beautiful a place and the campus life inspired me, when I read about it in the prospectus.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The Mechanical & Manufacturing Department Faculty is amongst the best throughout India. Hence, the curriculum is designed in such a way that it is very easy to adapt with every coming semester. Starting off with basics initially, the course gradually picks up pace. If asked about the difficulty level of the curriculum, it's like a normal distribution curve that follows.

Internships Opportunities

The companies generally come in for internships, though very few for Mechanical and Mfg Dept. Average stipend may vary from 8000-12000, however, the overall experience is quite comprehensive and enlightening.

Placement Experience

4.5

The placements are too good and plenty for Computer Sciences and IT, as a number of companies come in and go out everyDAY. Decent for all other branches like mechanical, electronics and comm etc. However, branches like Industrial and Production, Mechatronics and Civil face a little tough time finding placements. However, getting placed is not difficult at all. If you're a student with no pending backlogs and are still not placed at the end of the placement season, there is definitely something wrong with you.

College Events

5

There is a lot to explore on the social and extra-curricular grounds. Every September/October there is our tech fest held on campus. Starting from screwing and unscrewing a CBR engine to learning different types of welding, you may learn ample if you wish to. Coming to Revels, MITs own cultural fest, you'll find fashion shows, concerts, musical nights etc. happening and the whole campus is lit almost 24*7. There is a plenty more to explore. Manipal is one hip and happening place.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Fee structure is a little bit on the expensive end now. While I was a part, our annual tuition fee was 182,000 INR. It has become almost two-fold, last time I checked. However, if you were to ask me. you get bang for your buck. Each penny exponentially reflects in the way you eventually turn out to be.

Fees and Financial Aid

Good thing about Manipal is that there is no reservation on the basis of caste, creed, sex etc., though they must have had some reservation for girls, as the sex ratio in engineering colleges is highly skewed, but there is something for Economically Weaker Sections or the EWS as far as I am aware. And students with good ranks in MU-OET also may avail some scholarship.

Campus Life

5

The campus life is awesome. You get to do what you like. Marena, our sports arena, is a beautiful place and has been equipped with the best among the best facilities, which comes at a subsidised cost. Trust, I haven't been able to find any similar gym at such an amazing price. It's a steal. Plus Manipal is one of the most beautiful places in India. Lots to learn and lots to explore.

Hostel Facilities

5

Hostel facilities are really good and hostels are really beautiful and comfortable. It's upto you so as to how much you want to spend and what kind of a comfort you're looking for. The food court offers a great variety, though eventually you get bored of the taste of the food. Chef On Wheels, the caterer, had become notoriously worse over a period of 4 years. Average spend for a year-1.5 Lakh Ideally, I would suggest anyone to stay in the hostel for the first year. Second year onwards, you may seek an option to find an apartment, which are cheap and safe, and a number of cooks are available so as to serve your requirements. Average spend for a year- 1.5 to 2 Lakh.

Alumni/Alumna

Alumni network and seniors are really helpful. Now, Manipal has become more serious about sending regular mailers to the alumni and making sure that they are on the same page as the college administration, placement department etc.

Exam Structure

If you are in for engineering, you shouldn't even ask such a question. You shall see it all in 4 years. There are a couple of sessionals in a semester and one end sem exam for each subject. Some days you might have to answer 2 sessionals in a day, hence, being prepared, by which I mean, starting preparation 7-10 days before sessionals is mandatory, if you're an average student(just like me).

Admission

Once the offline form was out in November 2010, I filled it and sent it across with the required set of documents. The date and center selection was done online post the confirmation email in March, 2011. I wrote the exam in May, 2011 and scored an average 118 of 240 and secured a rank of 3761. This helped me get almost all the branches except Computer Science, Electronics and Communication and Mechanical Engineering, as the competition is really cut throat for these branches.

Faculty

4.5

The faculty is one of the top class faculties throughout India. The Professors are always helpful and warm(a few exceptions always being there). They indeed have a lot of patience and attribute answers to the doubts/queries with a very calm and disciplined manner. Punctuality, dedication and Discipline are the 3 founding pillars of the faculty at Manipal Institute of Technology.
