Remarks

In the end , I just want to say that any college is not perfect. There are many pros and cons of every college. Sometimes the management does not support the students. But even after that, I love my college. If I have decided to write down this long review regarding my college, that is only because I want the people to be the part of my college after knowing the important things about the college and helping them in choosing one of the best college of India.

Entrance Preview

I got this college through AIEEE after securing AIR 25591(OBC) with 161 marks and joined this college in the year 2011 with B.tech in Chemical engg. But nowadays, the pattern has changed and people can get this college only through JEE mains and JEE advance. I aimed for IIT but I failed in qualifying the JEE exam. Then I qualified in AIEEE and decided to choose this college as it is among the top 5 NIT's of India. Also I belong to Uttar Pradesh, so I preferred this college over NIT Trichy, NIT Surathkal and NIT Warangal.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

The curriculum was up to the mark and was designed in such a way that students can get the core knowledge of their branch in a well established manner. Focus on research was not that much or I would say the lack of equipment and environment have made the research work a very difficult task. Neither the students were so much interested for research nor they were pushed by the teachers for that. But yes the curriculum was very well set. Upto 6th semester, all the subjects were compulsory for the students but from 7th semester, there were 2 branch electives and 1 open elective in which we have to take a subject of any other branch.

Internships Opportunities

At that time, the department was in the developing period and many companies were not aware of the fact that chemical engineering department exists in NIT Allahabad but slowly things changed. Our batch was not able get the advantage of internships but I have heard from my juniors that now our department is sufficient enough to provide internship not only to college students but also to the students from other students. I don't have the information regarding how much stipend students get.

College Events

5

The college is not only restricted to provide students the bookish knowledge but also motivate the students to go for some practical stuff in the technical fest. Also the college supports the students to participate in the co-curricular activities and sport activities. All the three fests are organized at the national level and from all over the nation used to come and take part in those events.

Fee Structure And Facilities

When I joined the college in 2011, the fee structure was as follows: semester Fees: Rs. 24,900/- per semester(including hostel charges) Mess Fees: Rs. 13000/- per semester so, for four years it was around Rs. 3,30,200 and it is quite feasible according to my view. But now the fees has been increased to around Rs.45000 per semester from Rs.24900. So, now it will cost you around 5 Lac for completing your B.Tech degree which is again quite feasible.

Fees and Financial Aid

The college provides scholarship of around Rs. 70,000(annually) to students who have a low financial background.

Campus Life

3.5

Gender ratio was that good. The girl to boy ratio was 1:8. There were 720 boys in my batch and 80 girls. But if you will talk about the campus life, then I would say NIT Allahabad is a complete package of academics, enjoyment, growth, learning, knowledge and opportunities. Talking about diversity, MNNIT hold 50% reservation for Uttar Pradesh and 50% seats for other states. So there were students from every state right from North East states to south Indians. Also there were som seats reserved for DASA quota. So we have people from Nepal, Bhutan, Srilanka, Singapore, Oman and Dubai. So it was a rich amalgamation of various cultures in a single place.

Hostel Facilities

4.5

There are 7 hostels for B.tech students, 3 for girls, 1 for PG students and international guest house for PhD students. For B.Tech students, the hostels are given to the students on twin-sharing basis upto 3rd year. In final year, the students are given single rooms. For PG students, hostels are given to the students on twin-sharing basis in the 1st year and are given single rooms in the 2nd year of M.tech or MCA. PhD students get the 1BHK apartment.

Exam Structure

The exam structure was quite balanced. The semester consists of 2 class tests of 20% weight-age and 1 end semester exam of 60% weight-age and the rest 20% were either consists of practical exams or quizzes etc. Sometimes it becomes hectic and sometimes not. Like the 5th and 6th semesters were the most hectic semesters of my B.tech life and they are the most hectic semesters for the all the branches. The final year was chilled out. The only efforts that you have to put in the final year ar in the final year project and the placements.

Admission

AIEEE exam used to take place always after the board exams of intermediate and the notification used to get released in the month of December or January. I took the exam in the month of April and the result came out in the month of June. After the result, the counselling procedure started in the month of June itself. I secured AIR 25591(OBC-NCL) and got Biotechnology at NIT Rourkela in round 1 of counselling. As I was not interested in taking that course, so I waited for round 2 and again I got Biotechnology at NIT Rourkela in round 2. So I again left my seat and waited for 3rd round and I got Biotechnology at NIT Allahabad in round 3. Though I was not interested in Biotechnology, but still I joined the college because of three reasons. Firstly because of its reputation. Secondly, I came to know that I can take part in round 4 and 5 of counselling even after joining the college and can change the branch if I would get any branch in that respective college that I joined. Thirdly, even if I don't get any up gradation in round 4 and 5 of counselling, still I have 2 more chances of changing my branch either through internal sliding in which if any seats remains vacant, college gives chance to the students to change their branch on the basis of rank or after 2 semesters on the basis of pointers. So, I got chemical engineering through internal sliding.

Faculty

3.5

Since the department was new (5 years old in 2011), so the faculty were a mixture of some experienced and some young ones. The department was putting its 100% to develop the chemical engineering department and to provide the students best possible facilities possible. Some laboratories were not there in the department like heat transfer lab, mechanical operations lab but our HOD helped the students in gaining practical knowledge by seeking help from mechanical department, biotechnology department, chemistry department and many other. So I would say that the faculty were trying hard to create a challenging environment for the students to perform out of their limits.

I choose this course because I want to be a software developer. The faculty are very kind and helpful. Almost every faculty member has completed there post-graduation from various established colleges. The examination scheme is a little bit slow here. Students can pass their semester exams if they are paying at least 45 per cent of their concentration.
