Remarks
Decent alumni recognition, excellent location, specifically good for mechanical engineering course as it has very reputed professors. Also, seats were given purely based on merit instead of quota. From websites like quora, the feedback was that college life is great in terms of the overall development. The admission process is fairly straightforward. Seperate entrance exam is conducted and based on the score the counseling procedure as scheduled. Exam happens around May-June. The exam can be given twice and the best score out of 2 is considered. The college boasts of distinguished alumni such as Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Rajeev Suri amongst a few which is always attractive. Apart from that, the cosmopolitan open culture is always a great driver for experiential learning and overall growth. Lastly not forgetting to mention that specifically Mechanical Engineering is one of the oldest and most reputed streams in the college which is a great morale booster.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose Mechanical engineering as it is a blend of various other streams as well, and more importantly for my love for classical physics. Moreover, the college had a reputation of being very good for Mechanical as the professors were the best in the business. The stream had around 220 students in total for our batch which were further divided into 4 sections consisting of approximately 60 students each. There were around 100 faculty members in Mechanical engineering. All the faculty were mandatorily recruited with minimum qualification of M-Tech which was later revised to PhD. The teaching method used was a mixture of blackboard teaching and PowerPoint presentations based on the subject requirement. The examination schedule was semesterwise, with 50 marks for internal assessments and 50 marks for end semester exams. The examinations were of moderate difficulty where it was difficult to score top grades but fairly easy to pass the exams.
Internships Opportunities
Companies like Goldman Sachs , Amazon, General Electric, Microsoft, etc offered internship opportunities via on-campus selections to a good number of students. The roles offered were that of Software developer, operations analyst, software enterprise engineer, etc. Stipend ranged from 25k per month for GE to 75k for Goldman Sachs and Microsoft. The students are generally taken in for a couple of months of internship and given mini-projects to complete which are then evaluated and based on that they are offered Pre-placement offers.
Placement Experience
Students become eligible for paid internships from the 5th semester itself though the actual placements start in the 7th semester. Many students grab the opportunities and bag pre-placement offers at the end of their summer internships. Around 180 companies visit the campus with an average offer of 7 every 10 students. The highest package for the 2020 batch was 42 lpa offered to Computer science students in Adobe. Other notable placements were in Microsoft, Maruti Suzuki, L&T construction, etc to name a few. The average package differs from branch to branch with it being highest for the Computer Science stream of around 7 lpa. Around 70 percent of students get placement offers before graduation. I myself got campus placed in Maruti Suzuki and have been working with them for 6 months and continuing.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees were roughly around 330000 per year for the batch of 2016-2020. Though there was an approximate hike of 10 percent annually for the succeeding batches. The hostel fees was anywhere between 80000 to 150000 depending upon the type of hostel as in AC or non AC. The mess charges were included in hostel fees. AICTE scholarship was given to students where the eligibility was the annual income of the family below a certain threshold. Another scholarship was Achiever scholarships which were given to branch toppers. Also, the college had tied up with multiple banks to provide student-friendly loans such as SBI Bank, ICICI Bank, Canara Bank to name a few. During the 8th semester, i got an internship offer from GE transportation with a stipend of 25k monthly. Also I got a campus placement in Maruti Suzuki with a CTC of 8.4 lpa.
Campus Life
Two fests are conducted every year, one is the technical fest called TechTatva conducted in the month of April and the other being the cultural fest Revels conducted in November. The college library is a state of the art facility with a calm and friendly atmosphere and consisting of books ranging from college curriculum to comics to personal development books all in one place. Classrooms are fairly clean, modern with projector facilities, comfortable desks and chairs, and great ventilation. A variety of extracurricular activities are regularly conducted in the college like tennis competitions, cricket championships, table tennis tournaments, etc. The college boasts of a large no. Of technical and nontechnical clubs namely Solar Mobil, Formula Manipal, Goonj the literary club and multiple other clubs which are run by students and are very successful.
Hostel Facilities
Hostels are clean and hygienic with spacious and well-ventilated rooms. The brooming and mopping is done almost daily and there is also paid laundry service within the hostel. The hostel fees consist of mess facilities as well. The messes are also clean and have good seating capacity with proper weekly menus being followed. The food is hygienic as well. The centralized food court is a great sight in itself. Truly outstanding. Hostel registration is done along with fee payment via an online portal and payment is done annually. The hostels are slightly on the expensive side but the facilities provided are equally adequate.
