Remarks
This college was a reputed and well-known one. It has prestigious alumni and is known for its discipline and results. The college is apolitical with strict rules and regulations. While applying for colleges after my board exams, many people recommended this college to me. The admission is on the basis of 12th board marks and takes place in the month of June. The session starts in the month of July, in the first week. The college being strict can prove to be a major drawback at times. Often, the administration takes certain abrupt decisions without empathizing with the students. The students have no voice and their demands are rarely met. Overall, if you are a disciplined first-bencher looking for peaceful college life and a degree, this college is a good choice. Coming to the chemistry department, the labs are more or less well furnished with good equipment and chemicals. The professors are experienced. Class interaction is good. There is an excellent scope of co-curricular as well.
Course Curriculum Overview
The subject is one of my favorites since middle school so I decided to pursue my higher studies in it. I preferred not to opt for engineering but rather study in the general line. The faculty to student ratio is good. There are a total of 40 students in our class and a total of 8 professors in the department. Most of the faculty are doctorates. The exams are conducted on time and the syllabus, as well as paper checking, is fair.
Internships Opportunities
Professors arrange for summer and winter internships from eminent scholars via their known contacts. There is no on-campus internship as well as our professors do not guide internships themselves. Recommendations are given.
Placement Experience
Students become eligible for placements in the 3rd year. They can enroll in the placement cell which helps with placements, Some departments get quite good placements from reputed companies. After getting the degree, I plan on sitting for the JAM MSc entrance exams.
Fees and Financial Aid
The course fees for chemistry is 50,000 per year. 27, 500 is taken during the start of each year and the quarterly fee is 7,500. Semester exam fees are 1,500. Hostel fees is 7500 per month. The college is quite strict about late fees payment and deducts fine for it.
Campus Life
Campus life is good. You can chat with your peers in the canteen or in the benches near the playground. There are provisions for sports and co-curricular. The library is fantastic with almost every book available as well as previous year's question papers. The classrooms are spacious and airy. Smart class is present. Some classrooms are air-conditioned. There are various societies for co-curricular. The students run and manage it. The annual fest Xavotsav is conducted on a large scale in January. Departmental and society fests are also massive with eminent celebrities and excellent functions
Hostel Facilities
Rooms must be shared by 2 or 3 students. Each room has individual fans, lights, and plug points. Study tables, cupboards, and beds are provided. Food quality in the mess is more or less good. Registration for the hostel must be done at the time of admission itself. The hostel is at 15mins walking distance from the college at 219/1 AJC Bose Road, Kolkata
