Remarks
When I joined, I was just an 18 year old kid who had no idea how to be independent. Now, I am a self sustaining individual earning well enough to lead a good life. The experiences in RVCE have shaped my personality to a large extent and has taught me a lot.
Entrance Preview
COMED-K - AIR 542 With an AIR of 542, I had the liberty to get into any course in any college in Karnataka (except NITK). R.V. College of Engineering was known for its excellent placements and brand value and was ranked the best private college in Karnataka. Hence, I took up computer science at RVCE.
Course Curriculum Overview
Course structure starts from the basics and gives the student a wide range of electives later on to choose and specialize in. Emphasis is given for research and publishing papers. While some courses are theoretical in nature, there are many which are practical and involves real life applications.
Internships Opportunities
Yes. Lot of companies come for internships especially in 3rd year. Including Deloitte, Amazon, IBM (Innovation labs), Cisco, Microsoft, Avaya, Gnostice etc. The stipend ranges from 10k to 40k. They have online coding rounds followed by couple of technical interviews.
Placement Experience
Excellent. 100℅ placement average pay (computer science 2016 batch) - 10.5 LPA, Highest package - 27.5 LPA, Highest open dream selection - 45 students at 13.5 LPA (Cisco) Other companies that visited - PayPal (20 LPA), Myntra (19.5 LPA), Helpchat (22 LPA), McKinsey and company (10 LPA), Endurance (15.6 LPA).
College Events
8th mile is an annual cultural extravaganza. It is funded well and performed with a lot of interest. Under the peepal tree is RV's flagship quizzing event. Lots of students from across the country including IITs and NITs participate. The fest is usually for 3-4 days with a celebrity night on the last day.
Fee Structure And Facilities
CET fees is around 40k per year. COMED-K fees is 1.4L per year. Management quota fees ranges from 14L to 24L (not very sure) depending on when the seat is booked. After the donation of 14/24L, the regular COMED-K fees of 1.4 L applies for every subsequent year.
Fees and Financial Aid
I am not very sure about this. Although there is a scholarship program by infineon. They usually select the topper from the branch and provide them with scholarship.
Campus Life
Gender ratio depends on the branch. CS, EC, Telecom, Biotechnology, IS, IT have a healthy gender ratio. Whereas Mechanical and IEM have lot more guys than girls. Student diversity is good with people from all over the country studying. No discrimination whatsoever. If the student has a modest and respectful attitude with his professors, he is treated with equal respect by them.
Hostel Facilities
First year hostel is not very good. It is due for renovation. Usually rooms are shared among 2-3 students. Second year hostel is better than first year hostel. Rooms are shared among 2 students. Third year hostel is again not very good. Rooms are shared among 2-3 students. Fourth year hostel is the best. Each student gets an individual room and is pretty new and clean. Hostel availability from second year onwards depends on the CGPA of the student.
Alumni/Alumna
Alumni network is huge. They live all over the world and meet every year. The alumni network in the corporate world has helped improve the placements in the college.
Exam Structure
Sem end exams are for 3 hours. They mostly have questions we are familiar with. Only if it is a tough paper, will you face questions where you will have no clue what to do. Internals happen 3 times a semester and the best 2 scores are considered. Some labs are tough while some are easy.
Admission
During COMED-K counseling, we were called based on our rank. When we had our turn, we had to choose from a list of available seats in different colleges and finalize. Once that was done, we got an official document which was to be shown in the college to confirm the admission.
Faculty
While there are very experienced faculty who are really good, there are few are a little inexperienced. But nevertheless, the faculty is good and are interested in teaching the course. They support external projects outside of the curriculum and assist in getting our papers published.
