Remarks

Although Ramapuram is situated within the city limits of Chennai, reaching there is a difficult task. The road to the campus is very bad and during the monsoons it gets even worse. Students do complain about the stink that occasionally comes from the dumping ground nearby. Most of the students use the college bus which charges around Rs 16,000 per year. Students staying nearby use autos or their own vehicles.

Entrance Preview

I had qualified in SRMEEE-2011 i.e entrance exam conducted by SRM University, I was called for the admit in the second phase of counselling, since my rank was 4852, the main reason I had opted this college is for the infrastructure and a peaceful life one can live here.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

Curriculum is very well planned and perfectly executed by the staff, and thanks to SRM for that, they had provided a lot of facilities lo learn, even with most of the practical knowledge, our curriculum also included industrial visits which has provided a lot of knowledge.

Internships Opportunities

Yes they had tied up with some institutions like Myproject, solarlet..etc, i had undergone 2 internships through through campus and also through campus recommendation in Vijayawada Thermal Power Station.

Placement Experience

5

Some of the placements happen at the main (Kattankulathur) campus along with the SRM University, Kattankulathur students. There are companies visiting Ramapuram campus also independently. Some of the major recruiters are TCS, Wipro and Accenture. Other companies such as ATOS, L&T Infotech and Mahindra Satyam also recruited a few. Some students also opted to teach at 'Teach for India', an NGO.

College Events

5

SRM conducts many fests and events which include symposiums, cultural festivals and Sports meet. Every department holds its own symposium which sees decent participation including participation from the other colleges too. Cultural festival pulls a good number of crowds from many colleges. In the past there have been major names associated with the fest. One of the years Strings had performed here.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Fee structure is high as compared to any other college, when i had joined fee per year is 1.5 Lakh, but now it is 2 Lakhs per annum. One good thing one can pay this amount blindly is because of placements and the brand of degree we get. Once even the college also should consider the fee for the students based on their merit then i will be really helpful to many.

Fees and Financial Aid

Placements, cosmopolitan crowd and freedom are the only points that go in favour of SRM Ramapuram. All in all, it should be an option to be considered if you don’t make it to the top or even average Anna University colleges. Also SRM, Kattankulathur campus should be a higher preferred choice if selecting SRM.

Campus Life

4

Students are expected to maintain a minimum of 75%, defaulting which they need to attend extra lectures during the study break; which will also make you poorer by Rs 10,000, as that’s the fees to attend these lectures. Students need not wear hardcore formals, a bit of casual dressing is allowed. It is quite liberal in the sense that students are allowed to wear collared t-shirts but wearing shoes is a must in order to avail for the liberty from formals. The college is very strict with vehicle laws. Students aren't allowed to ride triple on a bike. Also no vehicle should be brought inside or parked inside the campus. Breaking any of the law attracts a penalty.

Hostel Facilities

1

Not each and every student gets hostel facility and i would rate the hostel as worst. The canteen isn’t really anything compared to the main campus. The canteen is decently big but then you don’t have a good variety of options available. Most of the time canteen is used for packed food products. The canteen isn’t very cheap either.

Alumni/Alumna

The campus is not really big and definitely nothing compared to the SRM’s Kattankulathur campus. CS& IT labs are good, all equipment available and that too in working condition, but the same isn’t true for the core labs. There are many obsolete non-functional machines. Seeing the SRM main campus, you do at least expect the campus to be Wi-Fi enabled but all you get is disappointment. Hostel facilities are available but many don’t avail it. Students find hostel fees to be a bit on the expensive side and they prefer staying off campus.

Exam Structure

Labs and Exams are conducted in a planned manner, one doesn't feel pressurized as the college works only for 5 days in a week and student had a lot of time to prepare for exams, coming to labs the exams are not conducted in a strict manner until and unless you pissed off your lab examiner in the past.

Admission

I had qualified in SRMEEE-2011 i.e entrance exam conducted by SRM University, I was called for the admit in the second phase of counselling, since my rank was 4852. We were asked to pay a non-refundable amount of 10,000 Rs in form of DD, and after we choose the course and campus in the counselling we had paid an amount of 50,000 Rs and later 90,000 Rs at the time of joining.

Faculty

3

Most of the college students has some or the other issue with any one faculty, well in my case also I had some issues with them. when i was close to my HOD and one of my professor didn't like that. Some of the faculty shows regional feeling and when we are in an institution each and every individual should speak in one language (english) but here in this college some faculty (not all) they speak in their regional language and they even show some caste and political feeling as well. This regional feeling has never affected me as I mingle with each and everyone.

Specific schedule is not followed in college regarding the academic and co curricular activities. Sudden decisions will be taken by the management which is a bit difficult for the students and faculty too. There were times where faculties are fed up of management rules and decisions.

1.) Placement begins from the pre-final year and we are allowed to apply for companies from the final year. 2.) Around 70% of the class gets placed in reputed companies with an average CTC of 4-8 LPA. 3.) Along with core biotech companies, many IT companies are also hiring students at a very decent package. 4.) I plan to pursue a master's after this course.
