Remarks
The best part about GIM is their richness in diversity. There is huge potential for personal growth. Excellent mix of people from different backgrounds which is excellent. Of course, there is the issue of the online classes which is completely different to live classes. The main issue is that online classes lack peer to peer learnings. The admission process was a two-fold step: Group Discussion: Everyone gets 30-45 seconds for their introductory remarks and conclusion with a 5 min GD. The topic is generally on current affairs. Personal Interview: Panel interview of 2-3 professors who go through your profile to find whether you are a relevant fit for the college.
Course Curriculum Overview
The student gender ratio is about 2:1 being one of the few colleges who have at least one-third of the students as females. About 40% of the batch consist of Non-Engineers. Each faculty of GIM holds a PhD in their respective fields. Most of the faculty members bring rich industry experience from well-known corporates around the world. The marking system is CGPA grading out of 8 the break up of which is different for different subjects. There is a host of HBR case studies that are used throughout the course learnings. In GIM we have trimesters. This means that we have more final exams (3) when compared to others. The exams/tests come thick and fast after the first term. But it is all application based exams. As long as the student pays attention in class, pre-reads and post read the relevant topics, you are good to go with flying colours.
Internships Opportunities
There are various internship opportunities from the top companies across the countries. For necessary reasons, I cannot disclose the details of the companies who have visited the college and the roles that are offered. You need to visit the official site of GIM for official details and published placement report released from the college.
Placement Experience
Placements start with Day 0 companies. There is a good deal of training which goes on in the background. The placement committee helps all the students with their CV building which is essential for short listings. The college has a new program set in a place called Campus Drona. This has been very helpful for all the students. In Campus Drona, a group of 5 first years students are assigned to a senior student. There will be personal mentorship from the seniors to the juniors. This is really helpful as they give their insights and share tips and strategies of what they have gone through and their experiences with the juniors. All the first-year students have got their SIPs and are looking forward to their internship in the months of April and May.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees were not hiked for us due to the reaction to the pandemic. GIM is considerate when it comes to a real-world situation. We have not been charged for hostel/mess fees as we are learning online. GIM's Scholarship is encouraged. There is a special scholarship for students who hold an MBBS degree (HCM). Moreover, there is a tuition fee waiver scheme for those who have family earnings of less than 8 Lakhs INR. GIM's flagship scholarship is ACCESS and they offer to up to 40 students. They have to maintain a CGPA of 5.6 or above to be qualified for availing of the scheme. For more details kindly go through the official website of GIM.
Campus Life
GIM is a student-driven campus. There are various clubs and societies who host an event every week. You will find something being hosted by a different club every day. Each club has its own Annual Nationwide fest where you will be participating with students of other top MBA colleges. GIM has one of the best campuses. You can name the sport and they play it. Tennis to swimming to football and cricket to indoor places for table tennis - badminton etc. There are way too many options to play any sport in GIM. Classrooms are excellent with necessary features. There is an online and offline library where students with various books.
Hostel Facilities
Amazing hostel facilities. The warden is also very chilled out. The hostel is located inside the premises of the campus. First years will have double occupancy with a roommate. The size of the rooms is quite big and sufficient. There is an attached bathroom for each room with a study table and cupboard for each student. Second years on the other hand, have private rooms to themselves. Basically individual rooms for themselves. The best part of the hostels in the views. You can see the amazing ghats as your room view. It feels like your screen saver and one can easily get lost in the beauty of the scene.
Interview Experience
All admission is given on merit. There is a two-fold step process for admission. First was the Group Discussion which is followed by Personal Interview. Group Discussion is generally on topics relating to current affairs. Students are expected to be well versed with what is going on in the real business world and use of jargons. Personal Interview was based on the students profile. It's about what you speak and your interests are in reality. All I can suggest aspirants is to read, read and read to crack your Group Discussion rounds. Download relevant apps which notify you of the details of the news. Beware of biased news and expand your horizons. Personal Interview depends on the profile of each student and hence you will have to prepare accordingly.
