Remarks
I chose MNNIT Allahabad as it is one of the best engineering colleges in north India. Moreover, it has great coding culture and placement statistics. The institute is 60+ years old and thus has a great alumni base, to take guidance from. Plus, it was the first college in India to start a Computer Science and Engineering branch. The admission process takes place through JoSAA after giving Jee Mains exam. I read various blogs on quora for comparing my own college with other IITs and NITs and came to the conclusion that I will choose MNNIT.
Course Curriculum Overview
Course curriculum for first years is slightly outdate and all branches need not study literally all the subjects. There can be slight bifurcation of course for various branches. Computer Science and Engineering curriculum is totally up to date. The faculty in all the departments teach well but for first year, faculties are very old and unable to speak loudly for all students to hear. Moreover, it is also affecting their teaching ability to some extent. The number of students in each class is sufficient and not too much. As far as exams are concerned, all the exams are conducted in timely manner and mostly questions are given from the given books. In some subjects, exams are given just out of course and more than 50% students fail.
Placement Experience
Our college is quite well known for campus placements and average as well as highest package is very good. Companies visiting for software development are very good including Microsoft, Amazon, DE Shaw, Goldman Sachs, Myntra, Flipkart, Codenation, etc. More than 90% of the students get placed (in software field) every year and the rest opt for higher studies or civil services or entrepreneurship. I want to go for corporate job after getting my B.Tech degree.
College Events
Life at campus is okayish. Its good in terms of clubs but worst in terms of infrastructure. Even in today's date, a segregation is done between boys and girls and girls are debarred of participating certain activities in college. Girls are not provided with the facility of a music room or activity room and all this is available in boys SAC, where apparantly girls aren't allowed to go. Girls SAC has very limited facilities which includes primarily of gym, pool and table tennis. Even in tech and cultural fests, girls are given a limited access of facilities past 9 o clock whereas boys have all the access all the time. Our annual tech fest, Avishkar is quite at a large scale though, and we get some great opportunities and exposure. It is held in the first week of September. Our annual cultural fest, Culrav also is at a good scale with numerous events over 4 days. It is held in the first week of April. There are some other fests too including Renaissance (by entrepreneurship cell of our college), Prosang (by college Aero Club), Hack36 and Weekend of Code (by college Computer Coding club) which are major highlights of the college. Our library is well equipped and has enough books and journals. Our classrooms are equipped with AC and students in each class are just the right number. Each classroom also has a blackboard, a white board and a projector. All the sports including football, basketball, cricket, athletics, skating, table tennis, badminton, volleyball etc are available for all students to play. There are also various clubs run by students solely or by students and governed by faculty members including Dance club, Music club, Enactus club, Rotaract club, Media House of MNNIT, Student Mentorship Program, E-Cell, Dramatics Club, Oration club, Gnosis (quizzing club) and many, many more.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee structure is highly subsidized as compared to other IITs and NITs and we pay a mere 1500 rs of hostel fee. Though, there has been a fee hike for my junior years, but the total fees is yet less than other colleges. There are 15+ scholarship for best class performers, for SC/ST people, financially challenged people, etc. A special financial assistance program for financially weak students is also run by our alumnis. I got a job offer from an MNC with a stipend of 1 lakhs per month.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel rooms are way too small and it looks like they were meant for single accomodation but are given to 2 people. But facilities provided leaves you in awe. Free internet access 24x7, access to cold and normal water 24x7, access to geyser all day and night, electricity too. Quality of mess food is very good and taste of snacks is awersome. (Though lunch and dinner for all 7 days tastes same). But there is a good variety of menu, and can be changed on request. Separate food for fasting and sick people is also cooked on demand.
