Initially, IIM Amritsar shortlists candidates on the basis of the marks secured by them in the CAT examination. Then the shortlisted candidates will be called for the personal interview process. IIM Amritsar MBA curriculum is designed to provide foundational functional knowledge in the first year and it offers integrative and specialization courses in the second year. The first-year curriculum includes a preparatory program, orientation program, first-year courses and summer internship. In the second year, students can choose from specializations namely marketing, finance and accounting, information systems and analytics, production and quantitative methods, human resource management and economics according to their preference.

The Institute does not conduct group discussions. First level screening is based on the CAT score of candidates and then the personal interview is conducted. The final selection is based on the scores of candidates in CAT, PI, Class 10, 12 and graduation, previous work experience, gender and academic diversity.
