Remarks
IIM C stands in the top 2/3 IIMs in the country. It has the best Alumni Network in MBA colleges across the country. It was a great learning experience to be able to study with some of the smartest and best minds in the country. The curriculum helps you discover many strengths and weaknesses about yourself. It gives a sense of what you are and what you want to do in life. CAT is the written exam basis on which candidates would be called for WAT/PI(writing ability test and Personal Interview) and the basis that there will be a final selection list. "June me hum Joka aye" is a very popular phrase reminding us over and over again the admission happens in the month of June, with the final selection list coming in around April, Feb/march is where WAT/PI. CAT results are released in the first/second week of January, while the CAT exam is conducted in November with a registration process window to be done in June/July
Course Curriculum Overview
faculty members were quite knowledgeable and classes were conducted very effectively. Along with theory, there were a lot of case study discussions that helped me understand Businesses and business challenges even better. exams were timely conducted and results were also furnished timely. Assignments and exams were quite challenging because it was relative grading and you had to compete with some of the best minds in the country, there were 60-70 students per faculty on average. In the first year like it is for everybody, we were supposed to do all courses, across domains. Second-year is when one gets to choose electives in the subject/domain they like. I had taken mainly Sales/ Marketing/ Operations as some of my previous work ex was related to that and my interest was also aligned to that.
Internships Opportunities
Internships got completed in just three days for the entire batch of 462 people. all domains of companies like HR, Sales and Marketing, operations, consultancy, finance, operations, IT, and general management visited the campus and picked for various roles. I got placed for an intern in RPG group in CEAT tires in Operations role and received a stipend of 60000/month on average the stipend for the entire batch would also be around that figure
Placement Experience
There were altogether more than 300 companies that visited the campus. Ranging from Sales ad Marketing to consultancy, to finance, to operations to IT and general management. many students had the opportunity of having more than one offer and were asked in a time frame to choose the final company of joining
Fees and Financial Aid
One of the best opportunities in the country as far as ROI is concerned because it is top 3 IIM, for my batch the media salary was around 17 lakh per annum and the fees incurred were 13 lakhs for 2 years. some financial assistance was provided for students coming from poor financial backgrounds and also others like the Aditya Birla Scholarship. The stipend I got was for the internship with RPG group (in CEAT tires) which was 60000/month and my final offer was also a pre-placement offer from the same company and the offer was 1700000/yr.
Campus Life
Campus life was just amazing it should definitely qualify as the two of the most memorable years of my life. The campus was lust green, in about 130 acres of space, with seven beautiful lakes and the exposure and development were all-round in every sense. All the clubs very quite active and it was an opportunity to interact with batch mates from other sections (being from one section you had the most probability of interaction with the batch mates) I was part of the Choreography club and the Intaglio club- a team that conducts Intaglio-the business festival of campus. thoroughly enjoyed being a part of the clubs and it was a huge learning opportunity.
Hostel Facilities
It was a single room with a bed, table, chair, and a cupboard wifi connection provided. The meal quality was really good. Overall it was a fantastic experience even staying in Hostel since it was in west bengal fish was provided quite frequently. midnight mess helped us the great way as during assignments and presentations to be completed overnight
Interview Experience
There was no GD but there was WAT and PI Since I opted for the IIM Calcutta as my center for PI, I reached the city on the previous night stayed at a friend's place, and reported at the center by 9 AM. At 11:30 we were given a WAT topic of 20 mins for 250 words and the Interview slot was given to be 3:15 PM post-lunch. PI panel had two males, both in their 50s. It was brief for about 15 mins they just a few questions about my background and some questions about the company I was working in - SAIL. About who the MD was, some current numbers, etc. It was overall a pleasant and friendly interaction.
