Remarks
IIM Jammu is an upcoming IIM that has made its position in the top B-schools of the country. It has a good diversity in terms of gender and education as well. The popular program of IIM Jammu is PGPM which is a flagship program of the institute. The admission process of this program is through CAT scores and the interview process either through CAP or SAP. I took preferred this institute over others because of its good placement reports and reviews by the seniors.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is very well structured according to the semesters, and faculties have expertise in their specific domains. Apart from faculty, the domain-wise clubs also solve the doubts and provide extra sessions whenever required. All the faculties have a doctorate in the specific areas, and the teaching method is also interesting, which helps us to work on real business world cases and learn through that. This year due to Covid, we had a chance to study from different visiting faculties that have approx 40 years of teaching experience, so Covid somewhere gave us new opportunities. Term exams are conducted in two parts, mid-term and end-term, which take part after almost every 45 days, and if you have attended the classes well and have taken active participation during a class discussion, then there will be not any difficulty to pass the examination. Starting the schedule seems hectic, but gradually you get the drill.
Internships Opportunities
Internships are offered in the first year some are domain-based and some are for general management. The companies like ICICI Bank, Kotak Mahindra, Vedanta, Parle, Bosch, Noveltech, Pepe jeans, etc. Numerous live projects are floated which provide students various opportunities to work in the industry and gain some experience as well as understand the working culture of the industries which is very helpful for the freshers.
Placement Experience
Placement season starts from the 5th semester and many big brands visit the institute such as BMW, ICICI bank, Deloitte, Kotak Mahindra, Vedanta, Byjus, Zomato, HCL, Motilal Oswal, etc. The average package is around 12lpa and the placement rate is approx to 100 percent. Roles are offered according to the specific domain as well as for general management, maximum offers are for sales and marketing. I have opted for the operations and supply chain domain and am looking forward to the final placements in the same.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee structure is around 7.5 lakh per year accounting for 15 lakhs for the full course except for the mess fee which is to be paid monthly. There are various need-based and category-based scholarships that are floated in the batch and one can apply to them based on eligibility criteria. The merit-based scholarship is there in the 2nd year which has some more criteria to be fulfilled to apply for the same. Also, many live projects and internships are floated throughout the year which may or may not is paid.
Campus Life
Not enjoyed the campus life at IIM Jammu yet and all thanks to Covid. So we had interactions online and all the clubs and committees functioning took place in online method only. We have access to an online library of IIM Jammu which was very helpful throughout the year. Here I am part of the sports committee and we organized multiple online events which were fun to be a part of, similarly, we have a cultural committee that organized all the festivals and events in online mode. Also, we have different clubs domain wise and various academic, as well as competition activities, are performed by the clubs.
Interview Experience
There was no GD for the CAP interview, I had a written ability test(WAT) followed by the personal interview(PI). The topic for my WAT was "Surrogacy into today's World", we were given 30 minutes to write about the topic and then was interview directly after that. The interview was basically an HR interview as I had no work-ex so some questions were from my graduation as well. The key to ace the interview is that be true to yourself don't fake anything and one should know thoroughly about each and everything mentioned in the resume. One should sound confident and maintain calm throughout the process and one should not forget that it's OK to not know everything.
