Remarks
Being one of the IIMs, it has a brand name attached to it and in few years it will become more prestigious. It has also completed 5 years now, so more placement opportunities will be available. Instead of a specific management domain, it allows students to select from a wide range of electives in the 2nd year, which is beneficial if one wants to major in multiple domains like marketing, finance, it, etc. Considering the placement scenario and the other IIMs of the same level, fees are on the higher side. Currently, the institute is working in the old campus. Their permanent campus is being constructed. There is a fixed process for admission every year. Students have to appear for the CAT examination which is conducted in November, once a year. Those who clear minimum marks criteria get selected for interview. Admission call depends on CAT marks, interview, and overall profile of the student.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is rigorous. In the first year, they try to cover as much as possible for every domain. All the subjects are compulsory and there are no electives in the 1st year. All the faculties are PhD with experience in corporate and teaching in the past. They follow a trimester format, so there is a total of 6 trimesters. Each trimester has two exams - mid-term and end term. Exam level is generally medium to difficult. It is an open-book exam. For few subjects, the internet is allowed as well. Final marks for the subject depending on the assignment, projects, quizzes, mid-term and end-term exam, attendance.
Internships Opportunities
Institute offers summer internships. The internship is generally in the months of April and May. Placement Committee deals with this. For a summer internship, companies may or may not offer stipends. Almost every student gets a summer internship.
Placement Experience
Campus Placement starts in the 2nd year. It generally starts from the 4th term and goes on till the end of the course. A maximum number of companies offer a Marketing role. Last year every student was placed and the average placement was around 11 lakh.
Fees and Financial Aid
Fees are on the higher side compared to other IIMs of the same level. It is around 14 Lakh for the entire course. Apart from this, every month students have to pay mess charges. Mess charge is around Rs. 6000 per month. Average Campus placement was around 11 Lakh per annum for the last 2 years and there has been a steady increase in placement from the 1st year of college.
Campus Life
As I joined in the times of Corona, I have yet to be on campus. But even in online mode committee members organize various events. On-campus, both annual fest and annual sports events are conducted. Various committees are there in the institute, selection for which are done in the first or second month after joining. Everyone is eligible to apply for any committee. Committee members from the second year are responsible for selecting new members. Apart from the committee, there are clubs. Clubs are both academic and non-academic. Students can also apply for the formation of the new club.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel is mandatory for everyone. Everyone has to be on campus for the entire course. If at any point anyone has to leave the campus, he/she has to mail the authorities. They never prohibit anyone from leaving. Girls and boys have separate hostel buildings. They are allowed to go in each other's hostel rooms. The room has 2-3 students. Each floor has around 40-50 students with 2 bathrooms. It may be crowded in the morning. The mess has a huge variety of menu. Generally different food items everyday including non-veg. The taste of the food is average.
Admission
Many parameters are considered for admission like entrance exam score, personal interview, diversity, past education, etc.
Interview Experience
The process starts with the CAT exam, generally at the end of November. Then those who clear minimum criteria (both subject-wise and overall) are selected for GD/PI which is held in the month of February or March. GD topics are generally based on current affairs, but It can also be abstract. Personal interviews are based on the experience if one has any or else it is based on graduation knowledge and student profile.
