Remarks

Good things- the best thing about IIT Madras is that it's topping NIRF ranking for the last 5 years, which is really a thing to watch for. The faculty it has and the environment it provides for the study is worthy of its NIRF 1 ranking. Bad things- there is nothing exactly bad about IIT Madras. But I think it's academic schedule is too hectic. It exerts a lot of pressure on students. More ever this schedule leads to severe depression many times. I know many of my seniors, who have gone through this. Reson of preferring, after my jee result I started doing research on which college is best. I took help from Google, my teachers and some passed out IIT student. I read colllegedunia review also. After asking too many people I got to the conclusion that as per my rank. IIT Madras is the best available choice. Admission, by clearing JEE. You will be eligible for admission to college but rank matter.

Course Curriculum Overview

5

I really don't wanna take Mechanical Engineering. But due to my low rank, I have no other options. Well, mechanical has its own pros and cons. It's really a good subject of you want to carry on to study. But it's syllabus is too vast. Faculty: student ratio as per my knowledge, once the professor told us that it's about 10. It's a really good herein comparison of other IITs. About faculty, really I liked those faculty too much. The knowledge they have and the methods of there teaching is really awesome. They teach like they know how can we learn most and utilize what we learnt. Their behaviour is really cool. Faculty is the best thing I like about IIT Madars.

Internships Opportunities

4.5

I don't know much about this stuff, as I am a fresher. But as far as I know. Student can do internship anywhere they want from there 6th semester. The best companies are Microsoft, Facebook, Google and Amazon for an internship. They don't pay you for what they use you. But it gives you a lot of experience . Experience is the most demanding part for any company.

Placement Experience

4

I just got admission to IIT Madras. That's why I don't much about placements. I am a fresher. But as per I got to know from senior and professors. Last year's highest package was 133 crore offered by Microsoft for the post of Software Engineer. Microsoft, Google, Facebook were the top paying companies in the placements. Their requirement was for a software engineer. The average package for a computer science student is 40 lakhs. But it changes for another branch like for mechanical last year highest package was 54 lakh. The overall package percentage was 70 percent last year for UG /PG students.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fees are not so high. It worth giving. As usual, it varies with categories. It's approx 2 lakh per year for general students. While 25000 per year for ST /SC students. Moreover, if someone's parental income is less than 1 lakh and he/ she belongs to ST/SC category. There are no fees for him/her, more ever they are provided scholarship to study.

Campus Life

4.5

The annual best name of IIT Madras is SARANG. It usually happens every year in faburary month. Apart from this, there are a lot more events like TECHSOC IHC, e summit, mechanica etc. All of these functions are usually conducted between period of Feburary to June. Classrooms are good enough. Proper sanitation, regular cleaning of tables and benches, air duct for air and full lighted. IIT Madras have clubs for everything. Interested people may join anything. These clubs vary from life style, food, sports, dance, music. To robotics and a lot more. As per my knowledge SHASTRA is biggest student running fest in Asia. It happens just after saarang (annual fest of IITM).

Specific schedule is not followed in college regarding the academic and co curricular activities. Sudden decisions will be taken by the management which is a bit difficult for the students and faculty too. There were times where faculties are fed up of management rules and decisions.

Placement Experience:

1.) Placement begins from the pre-final year and we are allowed to apply for companies from the final year. 2.) Around 70% of the class gets placed in reputed companies with an average CTC of 4-8 LPA. 3.) Along with core biotech companies, many IT companies are also hiring students at a very decent package. 4.) I plan to pursue a master's after this course.

Placement Experience:

The students become elgible for placements right from the 5th semester of their course work. The students who have no standing arrears become elgibile in the first place. There are many companies visiting the college where Infosys, Cognizant, Virtusa are the mass recruiters. The are many other companies like TCS, Wipro, Zoho etc. visiting the college placement drive. On overall 90% of students gets placed every year. The highest package of 25lakhs per annum was offered by amazon for 3 students. My plans after getting degree is to get placed in any of the company.
