Inside IIM Udaipur | a real picture

The best thing about IIM Udaipur is its open culture. There are so many opportunities to explore through different clubs and committees. Also, the college is still at its young age so new clubs are also getting set up based on community interests. The college focuses on Academic excellence since its inception and hence the culture and all the activities are structured on the same lines. Admissions are through CAT held by IIMs. It usually happens on the last Sunday of November every year. Shortlisted candidates are interviewed in the month of February and March through the CAP interview process held together by 9 IIMs. Collegedunia played a crucial role for me to select this college over other options. IIM Udaipur stands at rank 72 in the world on FT rankings for management research. And our faculties get all the credit for that. Faculties devote most of their time to working on research papers. We have a good number of resident faculties but a good number of faculties are visiting as well. Those visiting faculties teach in premier institutes such as IIM A, B, C, MDI, etc. They are not only experts in their fields, but also are great mentors. Faculties go an extra mile for delivering the knowledge to the students in the easiest and efficient way. The course offered by IIMU is general management. We are allowed to choose multiple majors and minors in the second year. Also, the course is continuously kept updated with current industry trends. That was the main reason I decided to choose IIMU over other options that I had. There is a total of 6 terms and in each term, we have a midterm and end-term exams. Beside that, we also have announced and surprise quizzes.

As mentioned previously, the whole batch gets recruited for a summer internship as it is an academic requirement for the students of IIM Udaipur. Most of the internship roles offered are in the fields of consulting, finance, marketing, and operations. Sales roles are also offered in a good number but those companies conduct the process a little late.

Students become eligible to sit for placements in the fourth trimester of the course. But almost 20% of the batch gets pre-placement offers in the summer internship process itself. This year IIM Udaipur successfully completed the summer internship recruitment for the whole batch. For final placements, students can opt for a placement holiday. That means one can try their plans of setting up their own business or anything for the next two years and if not successful, can come back to get placement support from the college. For the year 2020-22, fees are 17,60,000 Rs for the MBA course. Financial assistance is easily available from various banks such as SBI. They do not ask for any documentation or co-borrower. Besides that, monthly living expenses and laptop expenses are covered as well. Living on the campus is not so expensive. College offers different scholarships based on various conditions to the students. Also, various clubs bring live project opportunities all year round. Typically these projects are for 2 months with an average 10000 Rs stipend. Therefore IIMU is full of opportunities.

IIM Udaipur has a rich culture of conducting various events all year round. We have an annual sports event called Utkrishth, a Technical event called Solaris, a Cultural event called Audacity, and many more. We also have Intra college events and celebrations of each and every festival and community successes. We have world-class facilities available at our disposal. The library is projected and therefore a temporary library has been made available to the students. Classrooms are of horseshoe shape and colossal. Besides, we have all the sports facilities available. Only a swimming pool is not available as the college is situated in Rajasthan. We have 32 special interest groups. Whatever hobby you have, we've covered it. And if not, You have an opportunity to set it up.

IIM Udaipur is the hands-down winner when it's about hostels. Our hostels are no less than resorts. Clusters, as we call them, are equipped with all the luxury amenities. We also have basketball courts in the cluster areas. Common rooms are available for various recreational and academic activities. Clusters are maintained by Sarovar resorts staff. And we have 24x7 power backup and AC facilities. Pantry areas are equipped with refrigerator, inductions, microwave, etc. A separate room per student is allocated on a first come first serve basis. Selected rooms also have balconies attached. The course is residential and hence hostels are compulsory.

Analytical writing test and personal interview were conducted in the admission process in the month of Feb and March. The writing test was of 20 minutes. The topic was of general interest and related to current affairs. PI was conducted by two panellists. First, they asked me to tell me something about myself. Then they asked 2-3 questions related to graduation. Then 1-2 questions were asked related to my work ex. And the PI ended with an HR question. It was 12-13 minutes long and very friendly. They also offered me coffee and cookies. I practised for WAT PI rounds by reading the editorials every day for 3 months. I also wrote 3 essays every day as it was a pen and paper test and I was out of practice for 2.5 years. For PI, I relied on my coaching classes and online resources. In the end, I practised by sitting in front of the mirror and recording videos of my interview.
