A new phase in life

I knew I had to do pursue Computer Science. I had options to choose the non-CS branch at NITs and the CS branch at IIITs. I choose IIIT Ranchi, as it is in my home town. The good thing I liked about being in IIIT is the crowd you experience here. The crowd is like-minded with most of the IIITs has 2-3 courses. So the crowd is not huge and at the same time bot very small. It is perfectly balanced. Also, the Curriculum is far ahead compared to IITs and NITs. The only not-so-good thing about IIITs is they are very new, some lack good infrastructures and some necessities. But they are growing at an exponential rate. So advice from my side would be, if Computers interests you and you're not getting the top NITs, Join IIITs.

I had been in touch with the computer when I was in class 8. The interest grew here. And this led me to pursue Computer Science. I have been very curious about software, the internet and now I think, I was right about my interests. And I am very much happy and liking this field. The student: faculty ratio is increasing now and we now have an adequate workforce. Faculties are knowledgeable and their efforts have been great drivers for students in learning and experiencing industry skills. Courses are very well designed to promote practicals based learning and gaining industry experiences. The goal is to carve individuals as per industry standards. Classes are very timely and students get ample free time to learn and explore. The experience has been quite good.

Most of the placement offers came with 6-month internship offers. The stipend range from 30K a month to 90K a month. There are a few off-campus internships too. To name a few Goldman Sachs, AmEx, Intuit, etc.

The placement of batch 2021 had been great. This was not expected for the new institute but it happened. Numbers have not come out but more than 85% of students have been placed. These are not accurate numbers but these are legit. The highest package being more than 25+ LPA and the lowest being 6+ LPA. The average would be around 11+ LPA. This will be more clear when official numbers come out. Talking about internships most of these offers comes with a 6 months internship. Offers were given by AmEx, Tekion, Commvault, Jio, Goldman Sach(intern), Intuit(Inten), InfoEdge, Nykaa, BNY Mellon, etc to name a few. Some students are having multiple offers. There are students with off-campus offers too.

Fee structures are set by the government bodies, so there are no unnecessary fee hikes. Fees are a little bit of concern as being a govt institution we have to pay hefty money. Education Loans are fairly easily available. There are several state and central scholarships based on parent income and caste. To name a few E-Kalyan Jharkhand, UP Scholarship, etc. There are no opportunities for on-campus jobs.

Building infrastructure took time, but now it is there. We have smart classes, well-equipped labs, well-furnished classrooms, a library with a generous amount of books, wi-fi is not that great sadly. Talking about hostel and food, the hostels are good with 2 and 3 BHK flats with 4 and 5 occupancies respectively. These are regularly cleaned and maintained. The food at the mess is good sometimes and mess rest of the time. Other facilities like Medical, transport are there too. Sports facilities are not that great, I think this will get better once we move back to campus. We have a lot of clubs, communities, and societies. I have been a part of a few. This has been a great experience. We're going to host our own at the first-ever Fest "Culariti" when the college reopens.

We are being provided with 2 and 3 BHK flats with 4 and 5 occupancies respectively. The facilities include beds, proper lighting, and ventilation, study tables, proper electricity, and buyers. I guess we're provided with all the essential amenities. Talking about food is sometimes good and sometimes bad. The menu is rich and diversified. We get the proper amount of balanced diet with fruits and seasonal veggies. Overall the quality is average. Hostels are not equipped with internet for the moment.
