The beauty and Flaws of RGUKT Basar!

First of all, I would like to mention the place where our campus is situated. It's Basar, the holly village where the temple of lord Saraswathi Devi (known as the lords of Knowledge and intellectuality) along with, pure and holly river Godavari passes through it! It is believed that students who regularly visit the holly temple have secured the highest places! Coming to the campus, it is recognized by the AICTE and approved as an Autonomous body in the year 2008. Admission to our campus can be done after the 10th and only those who scored top marks in the Mandal level (from Government schools). As the campus Moto is to give knowledge to the rural students, it mainly focuses on admissions of government school students, then if any seats left, will set up by the students of private schools (marks should be greater than 95%). It is a government-operated institute and so students can get reimbursement for the fee of 40000 yearly. And more importantly, the faculty are from top NIT's & IIT's!

We have a 6 years integrated course, consisting of 2 years of PUC, and 4years of engineering, and 2 sems for every year. For PUC we have, Maths, Physics, Chemistry, English from the State Syllabus. Telugu and Sanskrit (Sanskrit is for students who opt for Telugu as 2nd lang. in their 10th) we follow the individual syllabus. For engineering, currently, we have the most stable curriculum. We have a semester-wise curriculum for every year (including PUC). In PUC, we have only 4 labs in total and 2 in each. However, in engineering, we have atleast 2 labs for every semester which develops the understandability of theory subjects in the students. Despite having inexperienced faculty in PUC, we have the most talented and top Gate rankers with IIT & NIT graduates are here as faculty members. Every faculty takes upon each student. Besides having faculties, we have additional mentors and tutors for the study hours which happens every evening from 8 pm to 10 pm. So as the exam papers are also a bit tough.

Students of the final year in engg. are eligible for campus placements. Most placements are offered for CSE and ECE departments only. IT companies like, Cognizant, TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Tech Mahindra, Capgemini hire more percentage of students compared to the other companies. Some of these IT companies recruit any department students in SAP, Java, Python developer roles. Every year around only 200 students places in IT companies from all the departments. Salaries vary from 2.4 LPA to 4.5 LPA. Most of these companies do not make any agreement. For all the other departments, hardly a total of 15 companies comes for campus placements. These companies recruits for Assembly line Engineer, R & D, Junior Scientist, Supervisor, Assistant Engineer, and some other positions. Salaries for these positions may vary from 15000 PM to 35000 PM.

The complete fee for a year is 40,000 per student. Students can get reimbursement from the respective state governments for the 100% (most of the time) of the fee. Students have to pay from their own money only for other expenses like, at the canteen, at xerox shop, fee for backlog exams, to get a new ID card, late course registration and some other. There is a hike in the fee from the past 5 years. Even if there is a hike, it will be covered in reimbursement itself. Students of the final year of engineering, get offers for getting a job on the campus itself from the early stages to till the end of every academic year. Sometimes, a previous year passed out students also can get to attend the campus placements. Some companies in the domain of mechanical and civil provide internships for both final year and pre-final year students. This will be the perfect opportunity for students of pre-final to confirm their job position.

We are having a great life at our campus! Everyday class starts at 9 AM and ends at 1 PM. From 2 PM to 5 PM, it is covered by study hours or by labs. Then from 5 PM to 7 PM, we mostly spend that time in the ground/ SAC (Student Activity Centre) for playing indoor and outdoor games, dance & singing rehearsals, working in the gym, and can use the labs for extra studies or any research work. Every year in February, our campus conducts a tech-fest named as AntahPragnya. It is the biggest rural technical fest in India. It is a long festival for around 3 days and preparation starts 2 months before the event day and events & activities start 1 month before the event day. We have a central library where most of the books available from foreign authors. We are also available with a digital library where 50 laptops are provided with unlimited internet access. On our campus, we have clubs for Dance, Sports, Telugu Sahithyam, Math, Hope House (fundraising through activities) for Alumni.

For every A.C. year, around 9000 students are accommodated in the hostels compromising 1500 students in each batch. Boys and girls have different blocks. The first-year students of PUC will have separate blocks and each room consists of around 20 - 30 students. From PUC 2 to final year of engg. all the students are accommodated in 4 blocks (2 for boys and 2 for girls). In these blocks, students are provided with free internet upto 2GB per day through wifi of respective blocks. Internet usage is strictly limited to educational purposes only.We have 3 dining halls on our campus, 1 for 2 consecutive batches. The mess food is not much good, especially on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. So, most the students prefer canteen and fast food center available in the campus premises itself. There is no need for registration for hostels separately, it will be done at the time of admission itself and for upcoming years, the campus directly allots the students in respective rooms.
