Remarks
It was a awesome and fulfilling experience but there is always room for improvement so is in this case also. I would suggest bringing in more of a practical and research oriented culture rather than a practical one. The management should try to modernise the college infrastructure like they have in good B schools.
Entrance Preview
I always wanted a specialization in commerce field and there was no college more renowned than Xaviers at that time there was no entrance exam. Admission were based on 12 th marks.
Course Curriculum Overview
There was very less or no focus on research per se. It was too focused on theoretical knowledge. But having said thay this course would also play a very important role in forming the foundation of the subject matter. Students usually prefer opting for higher education after the course rather than taking a job right after.
Internships Opportunities
The campusing programme were very decent when compared to other colleges. Internships would pay somewhere around 10-15k easily.
Placement Experience
Placements were good. Many renowned companies like Reckitt benckiser, Google, axis bank, future first etc come. The highest salary offered was 12L . The job profiles offered were also of a professional standard. But very few opt for college campus. Chances of selection would highly depend on one's soft skills. Often a single candidate would get selected by multiple cos owing to one's capabilities and also because there was no restriction on the no. Of company he or she can apply for .
College Events
There were different clubs belonging to almost all the possible fields. They had there cultural programmes annually. And we had a college level fest called Xavotsav which is the best among the lot. So basically we had club level programmes going on through out the year and a college level once a year which is organised by the college union.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee structure is differnt for differnt cources. My department which is Bcom morning had very subsidised fees as it was sponsored by the the state government. Initial adimission fees was somewhere around 11000 including a security deposit of 5000 and then 1200 per month.
Fees and Financial Aid
There were hardly or basically no scholarship programmes. There was christain quota and other state imposed reservations but no post graduation scholarships.
Campus Life
The campus life was awesome which basically started after the classes. Our was a boys department with no girls but in other department the ratio was quite healthy. Many cultural societies were formed covering almost all the art forms and other diverse fields thus allowing students to pursue their interests as well. I have never seen any discrimination based on race religion etc. It had a free culture and a good mingling environment.
Hostel Facilities
I travelled from home so i have little idea about hostel and all but the food quality of the cantene was quite poor. We often used to avoid the cantene food which turned out to be very oily PGs around kolkata are quite good and reasonbly priced with good food. Many friends staying in pgs in kolkata were all praises for them.
Alumni/Alumna
It has a very good alumni network which works very closely with the college adminstration and extends its support in all possible manners. They hold several programmes around the year and gather heavy donationa for the college and student welfare.
Exam Structure
There was a rigorous examination structure where we had 2 semesters per year and also continuous assessment in between these semester thus leaving no chilled out time for students. Not only this we also had weekly seminar where student had to prepare presentations and written projects. Based on all these together and also the annual attendance a student is graded.
Faculty
The faculties were highly qualified professionals like CAs and MBAs and most of them had the skill to deliver what they were expected to. They had multiple faculties for a particular subject facilitating better and organised teaching environment. Some were authors to renowned educational books and had in depth knowledge of the subject matter.
