Remarks

All in all , its a good college. You can surely become a good engineer if you really want to by studying here. Workshops surely need some investment to be competent enough if this college needs to match the likes of IITs and NITs.

Entrance Preview

I gave IIT JEE,AIEEE and BITS. Wasn't selected in either IIT or BITS. So with my rank of 35000, I chose this college as it is in my home city and also its a part of highly acclaimed Panjab University.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

All the engineering courses in UIET were well designed and all the changes that were required to keep the students competent and up to date were made. One major change that I can recall is the addition of a rule that gave students to choose either 6-months internship or regular studies in the last semester of the 4 year course.

Internships Opportunities

No. there's no such provision. But some times a company might come and for interviews for internships. But this is a very rare phenomenon. One instance I remember is that one big mnc came to interview students for a 7 weeks internship and they gave a stipend of Rs. 20,000.

Placement Experience

3

From our batch of 90, around 35-40 got placed in a mix of core and non-core companies. Those were the early years for my college and only the name of Panjab university was there to lure the companies. Core companies that visited were Honeywell, Fluor, CB&I, SML-Isuzu, Ambuja Cements, Triveni,Honda Siel. While non-core companies included Accenture, Infosys, Evalueserve, Wipro,Microsoft, etc. Max package of Rs 8 lacs was given by Honeywell. Rest all the core companies gave a package of around 4 lacs or less.

College Events

3.5

One of the biggest event that debuted in my college is SAE-Efficiycle in which teams comprising of 2-4 members take part in building a efficient cycle which students are to conceive, design and fabricate a three wheel configuration vehicle powered by human-electric hybrid power and capable of seating two passengers catering to the day to day mobility needs. Other fests include a cultural fest called Goonj and the technical fest called Aavishkaar.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Fee structure when I passed out was around Rs 40,000 per semester approx but I've heard the numbers have increased now. Fees usually comprises of tuition fees and lab equipment fees. Other fees includes hostel and mess fees for hostelers. I don't have much idea about that because i was a day scholar.

Fees and Financial Aid

In my knowledge, there is only one scholarship that is given to the highest scoring student of each department. Scholarship is of around Rs.10,000. Not so sure about the exact amount. Also there is a special grant fom university towards students who are below poverty line.

Campus Life

2.5

Lots and lots of technical fests and events has started occurring in UIET. In fact, UIET was the first institute to ever held SAE-EFFICYCLE in India. There are plenty of labs and workshops but what I think is that there is a strong requirement of competent staff for these labs.

Hostel Facilities

4

Hostel facilities are good and in some of the hostels, mess food is very delicious while in some not that great. All of hostels are wi-fi equipped. And there are plenty of parks/playing grounds in each of them. 3 hostels are in walking distance from college while the others are in university campus which are approx 3 kms away from the college.

Alumni/Alumna

College is not that old to be frank. Hence the alumni network is not that strong. But yes, they are doing everything possible that can help a student like adding a separate page for their alumni on the web portal.

Exam Structure

Exam structure was almost same as any other engineering university. There are 8-semesters , 2 per year. Each semester has six subjects with an annual exam of 100 marks each. Also there are 3 sessionals exams of 20 marks per subject. Out of 3, best 2 marks are added in your final score. Additionally, there are practicals and different projects whose marks are divided accordingly.

Faculty

3

There are a mix of teachers. Both good and not so good. Both helpful and not so helpful. But if one really is engineering enthusiast, then there are highly knowledgeable professors present who can really help in giving wings to the fire within. In mechanical engineering, the most of the faculty was phd and they really get into students projects and help the write research papers. But while I am writing all this, mind you me, there are some professors who are there just because of an approach or a jack! And they really know nothing more about the subject they teach but what's written in the text books. And some are not sure even about what's written in the books.

Placements of this college is better than many tier 2 NITs . Students are eligible for placement in 8th semester. If we talk about the top companies visiting PEC, these are Apple, Google, Microsoft, American Express, McKinsey, JP Morgan etc.
